IMVU Studio and Classic Client tend to have some issues with compatibility. One of the issues some seem to come across is when deriving meshes made in Studio, they have issues applying a proper opacity map. You can fix using Studio, but if you are stuck on using Client for whatever reason I have the fix for you here!
With your opacity applied, sometimes it is as easy as turning "Use Blending" On then off again, but sometimes this does not work and you will have to do the following.
Note the slot number where you are trying to apply your opacity.
Go to the Debug tab and over to Debug 02. You will need to scroll down to the TextureMap with the INDEX NUMBER of the number of the slot you are trying to fix.
Under that section, locate "Alpha Threshold". If it is not there, you will have to add the entry.
Add "AlphaThreshold" and set the value to 0.5.
Hit okay. You will then need to scroll lower on the same slot down to where it says "UseAlphaThreshold"
If it is 0, change it to 1
Hit okay again and apply changes. You should now have your opacity correctly applied.
You will have to do this for all the slots that are not applying correctly. I have had a few people have this issue so I decided to make a guide to it. This seems to work to fix the issue. If you still get issues, you can post here or contact me directly.

Thanks @Roy ! This is very helpful!
It looks like when you click the "Use Blending" checkbox when it is checked, it doesn't appear unchecked even though that is what has happened if you 'Apply Changes' the second click to uncheck "Use Blending" does not seem to prompt an 'Apply Changes' and does nothing. Confusing.
Oddly when I derive from 63758373 everything seems to be working as expected.
Thanks for the info. We are looking into this.

Thanks @xAidenSteelx . Yep. 'AlphaThreshold' was set to 0 for materials 21 and 22 which should have been hiding the sweatshirt slung over the shoulder. 'AlphaThreshold' should never be set to '0' IMO. Studio does not allow it and there is no control in Classic Client outside of the Debug panel.
I have had a few derivers of various meshes mention this bug to me and it seems like the Alpha Threshold always seems to set itself to 1 even when I tried to set it to 50 (.5) in Studio before setting things to blending. When I saw I had the issue when deriving my own product the other day, I already knew the fix from experimenting. The meshes are all pretty new.
Was this a newly created in Studio that you are opening in Client or an older Studio created product that you are just now opening?

@Roy Thank you very much for posting this workaround. You are spot on with the solution. We have been battling this issue for... well, it seems like forever :D
If you or others come across this issue, please let us know and provide the PID you encountered it with and we will have a look. At this point I think we may be encountering edge cases that we did not anticipate and the more examples we have the better.

I find this is still seeming to be an issue with the latest Client Download but it may not be in the future.

[Archived]It was a derivation of my mesh here: https://www.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=63758373
The mesh was created just a few days ago and I just updated the Client to the newest version: 545.0
Another one was when someone was trying to derive my mesh here but when they turned blending off they were having the issue:
