Composite Blending & Fresnel Reflection - Questions and deliberation...
I understand we currently cannot use the Fresnel Reflection along with Composite Blending without a "Workaround".
The Composite Blending along with the Fresnel Reflection allied looks like above.
The current "fix" is to use the Advanced Menu under Transparency by clicking the the "..." Menu. Set it to "Prevent Reflection". This setting will remove the anomaly from the Composite Blending *if* all the Black areas in the Opacity Map are set to RGB - 0,0,0 or "Solid Black".
This works but in so doing it is much easier to just use Alpha Test setting instead and the effects look the same to me.
Is this something that can be fixed or is it a rule we should remember to not mix the Composite Blending and Fresnel Reflection?
Maybe I missed something.
Is there a good example of mixing the two that looks or works better with Reflection being turned off with Composite Blending in comparison to the Alpha Test?
Thanks a bunch :)

Yes, I see. I could have used a 512x512 too to improve it. I usually leave all that to my derivers. LOL
I am glad this release addressed those issues. Thanks a bunch!

Ah. What I meant is the opacity map is JPG. JPGs are notorious for introducing compression artifacts and that is for sure what we are seeing. I selected in Photoshop the black pixels with the wand select tool with the tolerance set to 0 and found that there are many pixels that are not quite RGB 0,0,0 right around the opaque areas.
I then adjusted the levels to eliminate the non zero pixels and saved it off as a PNG and it looks much better. I also used the opacity map as the shininess map. It maybe a bit too shiny, but too me it gives touch more dimension.

Hmmm... Is this image a JPG? It also looks like both Alpha Test and Composite Blend are in effect. It is possible for a product to get into that state...
Do you happen to have an emission map on the material?

I do see the difference in the change. It still leaves tiny smears but much better.
It is much better. I guess it is what you are trying to do.
Different intentions? :)

I actually think that "Prevent Reflection" should be ON by default. There was a change recently that made it so that instead of threshold of RGB 0,0,0 (solid black) the opacity does a multiply on the result which makes for a softer transition to 100% transparent areas.
