Welcome to Getting Started!

This is a place for Creators who are just beginning their Creator journey. Get answers from experienced Creators and connect with fellow Creators in the IMVU Community. General questions and feedback about our Creator Tools and the Creator Program belong here as well.

The Getting Started discussion category is part of our new ‘Creator Connection’ community,  solely dedicated to Creators. ‘Creator Connection’ will replace the Creator topics in our current help center (help.imvu.com). Legacy Creator discussion content will still be searchable at help.imvu.com/. If you see specific posts in the legacy discussions that you think should be in ‘Creator Connection’ please let us know.

For additional Creator resources, take a look at our ‘Group Details’ section on the right hand side of the page.

For Creator Tutorials and other educational resources, check out our Creator Education Center.

@Hyperex take a look at the IMVU Studio Toolkit as you can do poses quite easily using that. See some vids here on using it.

Hi @Hyperex Most people use the APPs, either 3d Max or Blender as the Starter Avatar is easily imported for accurate Avatar Psoes and Animations.

Hope this helps.

Getting started as an IMVU Content Creator can be confusing as to where to start. It can be stressful for those wanting to learn the rules of what to do and what not to do. It can be very hard deciding what to make first and how to make it! Let's make it easier :D

It can also be one of the greatest and most rewarding experiences of your life! Take a couple of minuted and read this. It may get you pointed in the right direction.

Becoming a Content Creator you will find it much easier if you are already familiar with a good Graphics Editor. A Graphics Editor is used to create images from scratch and to "Crop" and "Resize" images you have already made, yourself. There are other places to get images but use Much Caution downloading "Free Images" or "Brand Name" logos. You do not know who made them and have rights to them. If you made them yourself, you know from where they came. I highly recommend people stay away from Brands and Logos!

What Graphic Editors to use? Many people use software like Gimp or Adobe PhotoShop, Paint.Net, etc. I see many beginner tutorials for all of these on YouTube. For an example on YouTube there are many Starter guides for GIMP that are very easy to learn. Look Here: I mention GIMP as it is a "Freeware" Software program and many use and give support for it. The Paint.Net is also free but not as many tutorials out there or experienced people here, as of yet.

The Next Step is to make a few things you like and may use for yourself. These "practice products" should be some things that are simple and take you through the "flow" of making items on IMVU. Save the complicated things for later :) Many recommend starting with deriving products as a good start. To "Derive" a product means to take one that is already in the IMVU Catalog and make a new color, pattern or add custom shapes, etc.

To start, I recommend making a new "T-Shirt". These are relatively simple and will take you through the process of making a product you can wear. In the Creator Education Center there is a step-by-step in making a shirt. Start with a simple one and look Here: https://create.imvu.com/knowledge-base/make-a-shirt/ This is how so many creators start making clothing.

I have to say clothing is a very competitive market. Look at the catalog, lol. I do know some people who chose to start making furniture for rooms, instead. Competition is less and there is more room for profit! Who says you cannot make both? LoL Furniture items use fairly simple artwork materials and can lead to another paths of success. Furniture is easy to make as the texture materials are mostly, very simple to make from scratch.

I have had several Creators trying to Derive things from IMVU's New Desktop or on Mobile and asking "How to find derivable products". These are not currently linked to Derivable Products. As a Creator, you need to get familiar with the Classic Catalog, etc (at this time). Most people don't know the Classic Website exists. Creators *need* the HTML Catalog to search, find and grab material maps, instruction, etc.

Classic Website? How do you find it? renditionDownload

Once there use the Classic Catalog to find Derivable Products (ones from which you may make things) and other Helpful Settings, etc. Check Mark "Derivable" when searching to find the Derivable Product or the ones you can add your artwork. Grab the PID Number (Product ID Number) and use it in the IMVU Studio for Creating. I recommend the IMVU Studio product editing tool as the many features give you more ways to enhance your products and make them most attractive. The IMVU Studio has many video tutorials as listed below.
