Can IMVU connect with SketchUp? Many creators stop logging in because Imvu never connected with SketcUp as it did with 3DMax and Blender. So do you think it is possible with the changes Imvu has made to its creator program?

Yeah, man! I agree, that they made SketchUp easy to learn to turn around and make it difficult to export.

I agree, that with SketchUp, Google Trimble has been less understanding of the need to create mesh on other platforms such as Imvu. I just wish they could work something out with Imvu, and have some compassion for other developers.

Unfortunately, this is not completely true. Not easily found, there are many resources for developers.
If the IMVU Toolkit for Skectup only accepted the FBX Export from Sketchupp and converted it into a useful format for IMVU import, things would be much better! Let me explain. With newer Sketchup Versions, the only way to get a mesh close to IMVU is to Export FBX. Sketchup still exports FBX in an ANSI format that the IMVU importer does not understand. I have to Export to FBX, IMPORT into 3d Max, and then export again. Also, if anyone has access to the old Sketchup Import and Export tools, life is good (Old versions of Sketchup only).
There are many more people familiar with Sketchup than other meshing editors than IMVU Engineers think! Sketchup makes things easy and the learning curve is much shorter. The only fall-back to Sketchup is a person *needs* to own the Professional Version to distribute commercially. Similarly to 3D Max. 3D Max the Educational versions are not supposed to be used for commercial distribution.
I believe engineers *thought* the user base with IMVU and Sketchup was much smaller and then tossed the idea aside.

Hi @babygv, We looked at making a Studio Toolkit for SketchUp, but there development access is severely limited and we quickly learned that making any useful tools required creators to have additional add-ons and that what we could provide in an IMVU "tool" would not provide much to the creator. I think what @LestatDeLioncourt suggests is your best bet.

Hi @babygv Look back through some of the older IMVU groups. Many helpful files and tutorials are there. These will get you going again. Exporting FBX is tricky. Post if you need help.

You're basically limited to very simple block/boxy meshes if you use SketchUp, anything more complex and you'll struggle. And that's notwithstanding the restrictive licensing associated with SketchUp, the online version doesn't allow commercial use - don't even think it exports to a format that can be used like the older version. If you can push through using Blender that really the best option.

I have an old version of 13 SketchUp on my desktop, it isn't installed on my computer. But I just wish we had more options for SketchUp users. I tried to learn Blender and 3dmax both were very complicated. While I love to create, I just can't. I downloaded 21 SketchUp today it is installed on my computer, however, I just started using the online SketchUp today also. So, what are those simple products you create?

Hi @babygv I use SketchUp to create simple products for the IMVU Catalog. It works fine for these projects. What version of Sketchup are you using?
