[Archived - DiamondBones] If we make a custom mesh, how do you transfer it to a customer without them deriving? Where are the chicken files?

Does imvu not want us to do this anymore with studio?

How do you export a project as a chicken file from Studio so people can give eachother meshes without deriving?

Studio-Zip trick maintains the Derivation Tree.

All Studio Assets are maintained & included.

All Studio Settings are maintained.

Not as Simple as the one file method of Classic BUT more secure.

Will someone test with me on this? Two different ways....

Test unused / unSubmitted project files (drafts only project)

  1. Zip a Folder of an unSubmitted complete / finished product.
  2. Unzip that same folder in a different Creator Subfolder.
  3. Open the second Creator Account in Studio. Open the product.

What happens?

Test a Published Project (shows as a published project)

  1. Zip a Folder of an Submitted complete / finished product.
  2. Unzip that same folder in a different Creator Subfolder.
  3. Open the second Creator Account in Studio. Open the product.

What happens?

.Chkn Files are easy as that is all you need. Just open the .Chkn file by itself. No other files needed. The issue with .Chkn files is it doesn't matter if it was published or not.

The Studio-Zip trick I feel is more secure. It ensures there are no exact duplicates (I believe). We need more testing. With the Studio-Zip there is no need to do anything except unzip the folder in the correct Creator's Directory / Folder, then press Submit.

Exchanging CHKN files removes the need to (re)assemble the product in Studio/Classic, which might be okay for some who are transferring 'complete', ready-to-publish projects. Else yes, providing source files is more flexible (assuming you want someone to have those files).

@LestatDeLioncourt Wait, so you weren't able to submit the product that was already submitted? That sounds like a nice security feature for those making an agreement of only them having the product!

Wait a minute... if I make my own mesh and want to give it to someone so they could upload it to their shop as the parent product, with no deriviation connection to me or anyone before them... then why would we do this transfer with chicken files, instead of the regular .xmf or other files for them to just upload into studio and let it convert itself into an imvu product? Do people like exchanging chickens instead because they're harder to export/unport(?) back into a file that could be altered? I'm going to ask my friend this because this is originally his question that he didn't have time to post here XD

I had 9 Projects in My Projects Folder (LestatDeLioncourt). I copied them over to an ALT Creator Account and was able to open them all Except One. The one I could not open has been Submitted to the Catalog.

Unable to Load ProjectAll 8 that worked maintained the Derive Tree and all other information successfully.

Maybe more testing is needed and report any security issues to Staff.

IDK, we can try it a few times if you like. I can make a simple project and Zip it to you. I know I have done this recently to Staff and it worked but, you know the ramifications of that one... Anyone send me a PM and we can again verify.

Am curious about this... iirc when you create a product and click Preview the assets are 'verified' (which is why it sometimes take a few good seconds)... so if you pack up the project folder, pass that to someone else, what happens to that 'verification'?

Hi @DiamondBones In the past, this is what I have done and it works great!

Make the product in Studio as if you were going to Submit it. Just save and don't Submit.

Next you Zip the contents of the Project Folder in the Documents then email that zipped folder.

They can unzip the folder in their Documents Projects folder and open it with Studio.

The "trick" is finding the exact folder to Zip-Up in the Projects folder. Check the folder contents for correct Assets, Edited Date/Time stamps, etc.

Hope this helps...
