Hi @MzBossie1, please know that IMVU is separated between minors and adults. If one of you is under the age of 18 and the other is over 18, that could be the reason why you can't find each other.
To become visible on the IMVU Apps, you need to sign in to your "Account" at www.imvu.com and where it reads "Privacy & Safety" scroll down to where it reads "Friend and User Settings", switch to "Become Visible".
