Don't waste your hard earned money in IMVU anymore - it's going to get worse

I have been on IMVU for 20 years now and from the takeover/launch of Together Labs most people can see this platform getting bad -- The company managing the platform no longer considers it's client base and their wants/needs nor do they operate this with any concern for the customer.  The have pulled the proverbial rug out from under us with no commitment to give us near the digital product our investments warrant.... and it's only going to get worse- here's what's coming (and it's UGLY):

Based on their April 1, 2026 announcement, IMVU-Blox is the next platform after Next — it's not just a Next update, it's a full reimagining.  The core idea:

What it is:

  • Block-style avatars — simplified, squared proportions instead of the current detailed 3D models.  Think Roblox-adjacent aesthetic.

  • Buildable worlds — rooms are no longer pre-built and decorated; you construct them piece by piece from modular blocks.

  • Simplified fashion — outfits redesigned to match the block style, easier to mix and match.

  • Interactive gameplay — mini-activities, social games, obstacle courses baked into rooms.

  • Community-built exploration — themed worlds, lounges, etc. created by users.

Is it replacing Next?

Yes. The blog post says "Over the coming months, IMVU will begin transitioning into this new experience." It's positioned as the end-state: Classic → Next → Blox. Next is the bridge, Blox is the destination.

The problem, as you can probably guess:

It's been 6 months since that announcement and there's no concrete launch date, no beta, no further update on the blog. The current version page (as of October 8, 2026) still lists IMVU Classic 554.8 and IMVU Desktop 15.5.6 — no Blox client, no Blox beta, nothing. The blog's next post after the Blox announcement is just a shopping guide.

So right now it's a vaporware announcement — they've told you the future looks like a Roblox-clone with block avatars (NASTY), and the implication is that everything you've built, bought, and customized in Next (and Classic) is going to be replaced or incompatible with it. No timeline, no migration plan, no opt-out. ... best save your $$

If the forums allowed editing of what was posted would you change some of the things you wrote?

Thanks Lucas after doing a much deeper dive I see that it was!  Thanks so much for informing me - my apologies for scaring anyone lol and I retract the statement of changes but not the warning about investing much in this platform - my opinion of their mismanagement holds.

None of this would surprise me anymore. In the back of my mind, I know I will try and sign on one morning and it will all be gone. It's just their style now. And they will continue to cater to the foolish kids, thinking they will make even MORE MONEY. They already have blackmailed creators with the stupid tier levels...then the ridiculous VIP things. The music. AP+...an absolute joke. And of course, all under the cover of some kind of update. And let's not forget this...all of these bots that spam the rooms...IMVU. The outside sites selling information about IMVU Users...IMVU. It's their side hustle. More money. And the hackers...it's amazing they all ask for just about the same amount of money when they hijack your account. IMVU is never in a hurry to do anything about any of it. Don't you ever wonder why? Grace is right. Save your money. Find another site to go to. This site is nothing but a scam. One BIG Scam!

Hello! I regret to inform you, but it was an April Fool's joke.
