UPDATE 12-21-2022

Thank you everyone for your candid feedback. We have read each and every one of your concerns and understand the frustration some of our Creators are having. Transitioning to a new platform from one that is so familiar can be challenging. It sure has been a big for us and we appreciate everyone that has chipped in to help us work through the issues between Classic and Studio. We literally could not do this without you!

Rest assured that we are not removing Classic or the old Creator Tool, but we are continuing to move forward with new features that might only be available in the new game engine (Glow maps, reflection maps and iridescence are coming soon!) There will come a time where Classic will eventually need to be sunset, but it will not happen before we integrate the needed features and functionality that you've grown to love from Classic into Desktop and Studio. And we have quite a ways to go.

With that being said, we have made the decision to not implement this change until we can get Studio into a much more stable state for you. We realize now that it might have had a much larger impact on your workflow than we originally thought because of the compatibility issues you have brought to our attention.

Ideally, if you encounter an issue where a Studio published product does not look correct in Classic, there should be a path to fix it in Studio without having to go back into Classic to do so. Over the next few releases we will be concentrating heavily on this backward compatibility.

@Drosselmeyer has already posted a few solutions to some of the current issues. Please check these out:

In our latest version 1.2.2, we've added the ability to hide the names over your actors to make animated gif or video screen capturing easier among other small improvements We also have a long list of parity features the roadmap for 2022 (in no particular order):

  • Manual camera controls
  • High Density Pixel rendering (for crisp clean edges)
  • Inventory management (for Desktop)
  • Peer review on Desktop
  • More options for NEXT thumbnail images in shop.
  • User Interface adjustments
  • Access to furnished rooms in Studio (not just room shells)
  • Expanding the Category list in NEXT
  • Sound effects support

Here's an expanded discussion on other features we're thinking about.

Lastly, I'd like to clear up a few misconceptions about what this change was meant to do. It would only prevent editing or resubmitting your product in Classic if you had originally published it in Studio. You would still be able to edit and publish new products in Classic, as well as edit your product in Studio that was created in Classic. You would also still be able to derive off of a Studio made product in Classic. For now though to reiterate, we will not be implementing this blocker.

If you have specific issues you'd like to share with us, we'd love to hear from you. Email us at [email protected].

ORIGINAL POST...

After listening to feedback and giving some additional thought about this limitation, we’ve decided to delay the editing restraint until after the new year.

To help us understand the impacts you’re facing we encourage you to post HERE or contact [email protected] with specific details on what specific issues you’re trying to resolve in Classic Client.

  1. Step by step process of your flow
  2. Example PIDS that exhibit the issues you’re trying to fix

Here is more background on the upcoming change:

As IMVU Studio development continues, we need to consider how products behave when edited in both Studio and Classic Create Mode.

Currently, if you use Classic Create Mode to re-edit and submit an IMVU Studio product, you can introduce bugs that affect all platforms.

To mitigate the issue, we are implementing a small limitation starting some time in January 2022 December 1. If you publish a product in IMVU Studio, you will not be able to open that product for editing in Classic Create Mode.

I joined IMVU Jan of 2009 I began creating later that year. I have almost 15k products in the catalog. I have no interest in Studio & will not be using it. I do not have a system that can support it & will not buy one. I do not feel forcing us to switch to Studio is right. We should all have a choice. We have a choice in using Next which I never use. We have a choice in classic or new messages I use classic. We as creators should have a choice in what we want to use.

I honestly don't know why they want to force us to use the Beta Study almost the hard way, that should be optional, personally I don't like the Study.

I'm very happy with Classic Client and I don't see myself using IMVU Studio.

10 years of imvu, 3 years to learn how to use the classic creator and I still haven't learned everything... My pc couldn't support the weight of the new creator program. I feel a sadness, a feeling of days numbered as a creator in imvu, we will no longer be able to reissue products, which will mean a big loss in old products that we could redo better textures and replace them. As an example in my case, products with auto lighting were very welcome at a time when there were no dark rooms, nowadays these products do not fit well in this type of room, they are like fireflies in the dark, little by little I was removing the self-lighting of these products, especially in clothes like wedding dresses that are white, that is, I was adapting to the new, dark rooms, due to the large amount of products already created for years, this also takes years to be remade. In the end, this is just one example among others. that I will lose by not being able to reissue the products anymore...Not to mention the time it will take to learn how to work on the new creator...It's really disheartening to think of starting all over again after 10 years of so much t work...

Honestly stop forcing IMVU Studio down our throats. It shouldn't be mandatory but optional. Some creators are fine with the classic client.

Those of us who are new to creating find the client a much better place to learn. Keep the client please. You are risking making many people drop out of creating.

This is a suggestion based on the unwanted shadowing effect on body layer. When an item is created using studio with the body layer a shadow effect appear, This shadow effect is not visiable on classic. My suggestion is to update the default avitar bodys male and female for IMVU Studio.

I am not interested in Studio at all. I am still learning and growing and I love Client. Please don't discontinue Client over Studio. If meshers create in Studio and it cannot be edited in Client, I will not be deriving their items, as I'm not interested in Studio. I'm sure other people may feel the same way. This will subtract sales from them as well.

On another note, there is so much to do, why don't you focus your efforts on things that add to the experience instead of subtracting from it.

You're spending so much time trying to push us out of the Client editor and into the Studio. Yet, you're not spending enough time solving the problems with the Studio. If you solve the issues with the Studio, then the problem with switching back and forth from Studio to Client would solve itself. We wouldn't need the Client if the Studio worked right.

So basically, since you're not that interested in solving the issues with the Studio, in fact instead of pushing us out of the Client editor, you're pushing us out of the Studio.

I can soooo relate to all of these problems everyone is having. I have had issues with Studio and Classic since the beginning. A LOT of my textures will not show to load or load properly in Studio or Classic now. I can't get my baby hair meshes to show for load in Classic and they load HUGE in Studio. Creating and Dev'ing has become, not so fun any more. PLEASE!!!! Fix these problems!! Does any one know why we are using Studio now and not just Classic still? I NEVER had any problems before.

I've had so many problems from day one. I'm actually considering just chucking the Studio and going back to the client. Firstly, I've still got Case #04374150 outstanding. It's been outstanding since 11/21. A software issue that no one seems to be able to solve.

Secondly, I've constantly got the problem of the system changing textures and settings. What I set to composite or addictive, the system changes to alpha. I can't trust what I put in and SAVE, because the system does whatever it wants to do. I spend more time redoing and redoing than I do with making new things. You can't expect how the item looks in the studio to be how it appears in the client. In other words, I'm beginning to believe there is no point in using the studio. I love all the extra features of the studio, but if I have to spend all my time undoing the mess that the studio makes, what's the point?

Hi I would also like to bring up about , original mesh designers. studio only works with 3ds max and blender so if your using SketchUp as many do all features such as opacity maps wont work at all , and textures don't always stay in the place they are set too. So I use fbx in 3ds max and get more texture issues. So the only way is to texture map properly and takes more time and knowledge.

One has to go back and forth from studio to client- on any product made in Studio. There is no question about it There is no getting around it. IF you stop the client your going to have some serious issues. Products will be broken, missing body parts, and so much more All I find studio good for is shine but then have to be careful in client that it came out right by always double checking... Why dont you leave things that are not broke alone and fix the broken things that have been around for ages

All of the above comments are so true. Many issues between the client and Studio. The last example I encountered was deriving an item completely in Studio. It looked awesome. Later in the day I had gone to the client to check my rooms.. The product made in Studio had white arms which was not suppose to be there. No sleeves were suppose to be visible. I had to remove them in CLIENT-In addition a previous item made strictly in Studio was great However opening it in client to wear the males neck was gone.

Studio= MAJOR MISTAKE!
