(Word Magic Banned) I just came across a issue that made my jaw drop. Apparently the word MAGIC!!!!! Is banned. I tried to add it to my product name and it stopped me at every turn, I wanted to name my new product (Summer Magic) Nope wouldn't let me, I tried putting just the word Magic in and it loaded the product with NO Name.. So I went to shop to try it as a key word in the search engine. Nothing comes up. All the thousands of products we have made over the years for roleplay and Halloween that have the word Magic in them are just gone not searchable. Imvu was built on imagination on so many wonderful magical stories. We have made products over the years to support this imagination and now its being snuffed out. Please can someone tell me if this is a mistake or a oversight? Can it be fixed? Will it be fixed? WE NEED OUR MAGIC BACK!!!

p.s. If you decide to ban the word magic get prepared that many of your shop's products will stop existing at the shop... I can't go back and change thousands of products because of your AHA moment that magic must be banned. At the end its BAD for the sales of YOUR SHOP and YOUR INCOME also...

Ok that's extremely annoying! You guys have no other things to solve and u start going after creator's products????

Most of my rooms have the word "magic"either at the title or at the keywords..

Have u realized yet that for years the best of the devs have abandoned Imvu due to these weird practises of yours or not???

Please STOP playing with our income and our work! You have no right to do this!

Im waiting to see what are u gonna do about it..

There is a stark difference between an every day generic word that is not a brand name and something like Nike which isn't a word in it's own right. It has no other meaning in the English language. Generic words do not qualify for trademark protection. That is, if the generic word is the common name of the product in question. Headphones is a common term and could not be registered as a trademark for headphones. But if you were to use headphones for dating services? Then it is no longer generic in this sense.

@Aislinn  I dont think any of our creative brains can even begin to understand their lack of creativity.. What I find peculiar is that How many Highschool or colleges use the same names as Major league teams... NBA is not crying to all those folks.. Nope this was a straight up LOGO theft DMCA problem. That still frankly has not been delt with in a proper manor.

@QBL I'm not much of a basketball person, but tbh, I really detest how they use everyday words for their team names. The lack of creativity in NBA names is sad, especially considering how much money rolls through that ecosystem. It's a little rude to trademark an everyday word that people have used for hundreds of years or more, like Heat, imho. I mean, at least the Lakers picked one that's close, but not an everyday word. It makes it harder on everyone else, especially in situations like these. Official logos, etc. I get it, but they shouldn't get control and domination of basic words in the English language because they can't be original enough to come up with something else. *grumps*

@Jeff Can we get someone to do the same with all the everyday single use words on the NBA list Like Heat, Jazz, Thunder and especially Kings, Kings Is a Huge one,, There are thousands of products especially rooms and furniture made for Royal Roleplay that will be stifled. Many male clothing products as well. I mean lets not put all team names back in but there are some that are widely used in everyday.

Thank You for your time with this and giving us our Magic Back. Like Aislinn said I to would love to see a path forward to flag trademark/ Branded Logos both as a blanket Flag and a Option in peer. However it is certainly refreshing that Staff is listening to us and trusting us to work with you this makes a world of difference for our community. A United Community is what we all strive for.

@Jeff This is great news, thank you for fixing this, I wonder if at some point in the not too distant future, IMVU could inform us or at least have a complete list of words that are deemed unfit instead of us all going around scratching our heads in a daze.

@Jeff Thank you for getting back to us! It's much appreciated. :) That's understandable, and I'm happy to hear that our products will be searchable again. I wish there was a way we could help prevent such DMCA issues by being able to flag a trademarked/branded item as a TOS violation, not necessarily as a copyright violation, but similar to the way YouTube, etc. does it.

Hi, All. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. This resulted from a large trademark owner's DMCA request, but I agree that it's a little overreaching. For now, I have removed the word "magic" from our word filter, so you should be able to submit and search for these products again. Apologies for any frustrations.

Is IMVU trying to force all creators to leave here and join another program like SL? I can't see how banning the word "Magic" is helping

you or us as creators. You are hurting your own self. This is absolutely beyond ridicules. Looks like you are trying to lose creators in this game.

Creators You can still search for your products using these words in your inventory in client. This will give you the option of changing the name to something you like and think is more marketable. and documenting how many products have been affected by this change. Derived from Products of course we cant change the name of and we are stuck with whatever they have given us or what is left after the banned word is dropped.. Just searching the word Magic I have 18 products that have been affected by this change. I will not be changing the names until we hear back from IMVU staff on what their intent is going forward. But for now I would just like you to know that you do have this option to see how badly you were affected by searching in your inventory.

@oxPrincessLeighxo  I think you are on to something every NBA team name is not searchable.... Even if it is a everyday run of the mill word. What Einstein on staff decided that?????????????????????? NBA Logos are trademarked not the dang word.. and if there is any copyright infringement at all its would have to have the city name in front of the word. The NBA does not own rights to the single use words. Now with that said the only thing I can think of here is that staff did not want to take the time to ban and disable all the NBA products in the catalog. Which would have taken sometime.. But that's why they get paid well and we don't. Staff is suppose to correct their mistakes after (They) open pandoras box. Now we have give or take 32 everyday single use words banned. Words that we have used for legit product names over the years... What About all the Mechanical Bulls in the catalog or all the Wizard products for Halloween or all the Summer Heat Outfits.. The list goes on and on and on and on... Example Bath and Body works doesn't ban the word magic from their products why? Because they know the word is not copyrighted. If IMVU doesn't want people to keep using NBA Logos.. Make it Known? Make it a flaggable offense. Start disabling all the logo used products. Hire a team to come in and clean up the catalog of logo theft or designate a team. Do not punish folks that follow the rules and know better.. Don't rob us of sales on our very Legit products that have not a dang thing to do with the Stupid NBA.. Which I could actually care a less about. Does it sound like my hair is on fire? I stay pretty calm for the most part but this is bottom line messing with my Money.. (Bad Actors) Shouldn't get to dictate how and if my products are searchable and sold.

While I certainly understand the disallowment of copywritten and trademarked names and logos (which absolutely NEEDS to be included as an option to fail products in peer review btw), a single commonly used word like "magic" being banned is absolutely ridiculous and possibly even religious discrimination... and could possibly open imvu up to (yet another) lawsuit. Have you folks learned nothing from all the times you've shot yourselves in the foot with your business decisions? @RigsK (IMVU Staff)

I wonder that, too. My sales are the worst that they've been in a solid decade. I haven't had sales this bad since I was a T0 newbie. I might have had better sales then. I have no idea what's going on, but it worries me. At this rate, I won't be able to afford the photoshop subscription and without that, I won't be creating anymore. Gimp and I are not friends. lol

@Aislinn I have really slept on this and now. I have to wonder with you how many other innocent words have been deemed UFI and not searchable. When did this happen ? Does it have anything to do with our heavy handed drop in sales over the years. I mean if our products are not searchable how are they ever going to be sold? Was it a algorithm? I mean I know a crap load of designer names are banned and not searchable that is completely legit. and sooooo grateful that it happened.. But this is a whole other ball of wax.

O'siyo, I'd love to know who made that decision and what the logic was behind it so we could have an open and productive discussion about it. KJ got a message from CS confirming that Magic is now UFI. I wish we had a clear and concise list of every word that is not acceptable with IMVU, especially when it comes to unexpected and benign words like Magic. I'm sure that a lot of the words I grump at Photoshop while in the creative process are UFI, but magic? Unexpected changes like this can put our accounts at risk, especially with how bellicose CS can be on topics like this. A running list, without having to check the whole of the TOS document, would be very helpful. Like I said, hopefully, this was an error and it can be resolved, but now I'm curious as to what else is now UFI that isn't immediately obvious. "Tuig thus’ an t-eathar, ‘s tuigidh an t-eathar thu." Love and Light, y'all. ❤️

Houses of Hogwarts arise to the threat.

They're taking our 'magic' and like muggles they fret.

What about our 'spells', our 'potions' and 'pills'?

Our gathers and 'cantations', our moonlit thrills!

How much will they take if allowed to this day,

If no one speaks firmly, assertively to say,

"Oy! Give me back me magic, okay!"
