There appears to be a feature that may be intended to prevent spam. When a user sends too many links their messages get replaced with another message: "Sending too many links too fast; slow down!"
There are several limitations and usability issues with this feature that need to be addressed:
1. When using the whisper feature, the message is only replaced for the recipient, not the sender, so the sender continues to send messages not knowing that the recipient can't read them.
2. The replacement occurs whether a message contains a link or not, leaving no way for the user to communicate until the timeout elapses.
3. It is not clear what the timeout period is for this scenario. "too fast" and "slow down" are too ambiguous.
4. The limitation is applied even when the links are internal to imvu. This should be an exception.
Suggestions:
When too many links have been sent within a given window:
1. Only prevent the user from submitting further messages that contain links, and not any message in any room.
2. Communicate how long the limitation will apply for, so the user knows how long to wait before they can send another link.
3. Ignore links that go to imvu shop products, or apply a longer window to these.
4. Ensure any message appears for VIP senders who are using the whisper feature.
