Request for Clarification Regarding IMVU Content Standards and Platform Direction

Hello,

I’d like to respectfully bring up a concern that I believe many long-time members may also be wondering about.

When I joined IMVU in 2017, it was a welcoming chat platform — a place to connect, create, work, and enjoy interacting with others in a positive environment. Back then, it felt more balanced and community-driven. However, lately, I’ve noticed a significant shift in the kind of content being displayed, particularly the increase in rooms and profiles with explicit sexual content.

I completely understand that IMVU attracts people of different ages, and that the platform has both GA and AP options. But I’ve become concerned that it’s starting to resemble a sex-based site, like Red Light Center, rather than a general chat and creation platform. For example, in my own catalog, I used a playful phrase — “kiss my aZZ” — and still had to mark it as AP, while at the same time, I see much more explicit content displayed openly in GA areas.

This leads me to a few questions I would really appreciate clarification on:

  1. Has IMVU officially shifted toward being an adult-only or sex-centered platform?

  2. What are the current standards for moderation of explicit content, especially in GA rooms?

  3. Why are long-time creators being held to stricter standards for minor language, while extremely explicit material seems to be easily accessible in public spaces?

  4. What safeguards are actually in place to prevent minors from accessing inappropriate content?

I work hard as a developer on IMVU and take pride in what I create. But I also have family with young children, and I don’t want my name or work associated with what’s beginning to look and feel like an adult site. I believe many of us who have been here for years would just like to understand the direction this platform is heading in, and whether we can continue to feel proud of being a part of it.

I’ve tried submitting tickets before, but unfortunately, the replies either redirect me here or don’t provide a clear answer. I’m hoping this forum post can help spark a respectful, open conversation and lead to some clarity.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to hearing from someone who can address these concerns directly.

Petrazenka , those are all great.

Maybe fortune will smile and IMVU will decide to implement some actual QoL to Vu, again.

Compared to when I first started to now, imvu DOES NOT feel like a platform for "minors/kids" to be on anymore. I can't even join GA rooms anymore without someone being completely nude and what's more messed up is that a lot of those people don't even have AP. It's all bm stuff. These minors can still lie about their age and use their parents credit cards/ID. This is why i made ALL my rooms AP with a higher chance of me speaking to adults ( hoping they all are). I don't even feel comfortable going in GA rooms anymore because it's a bunch of inappropriate and weirdness is going on. Reporting is USELESS. Only GA rooms I enter is my friends that I know for years. I don't even want to chat with people that don't have AP, because they could be a minor. I only want to chat with adults since I'm one.

I am a MOD in several rooms and I will politely enforce the rules and standards.

if someone isn't obeying rules I will almost always use words like please when trying to get visitors to obey the rules. I will usually use this exact copy and paste warning: " ( the person's name) Please read and obey the rules listed in the room information." I will then give them time to either respond or correct their behavior.

If a second warning is needed it will be more specific and direct. If after some time a third warning is needed my tone will be more authoritative.

I prefer not to boot because room owners often require several screenshots as evidence to prove I was not abusing power. This is a must because of the aftermath of booting someone; the room owner getting spammed by the one booted and all their friends who claim that I am a power hungry --------.

As a MOD I even get a lot of flack and hatred from those who only need warnings and all their friends.

MODS have become very unpopular.

I think MODS should get rewarded for their effort and also compensated for the flack + hatred they endure.

It would incentives visitors of chat rooms to behave and obey rules if an entry fee was deducted from their credit balance when they loaded into a room.

If owners of chat rooms were able to earn a few credits from each visitor to their rooms then they could afford to reward MODS.

I suggest IMVU set up a system that allows chat room owners to collect a few credits from visitors; like an entry fee to load into a chat room.

Such a system would be part of the chat room creation process. The chat room owner would set the price between 0 to X credits. The price of the entry fee would appear in the room information so those who wish to visit the room knew ahead of time before entering the chat room. This would also encourage more to actually read the room information + rules before loading into chat rooms.

I would even take this further; giving chat room owners the ability to issue fines on those who were booted. It would probably work like the entry fee costing 10 times more on their first visit afterwards, 5 times more on their second visit  afterwards and double the entry fee the following 10 times after that.
