Hello IMVU team and community, I’d like to raise an important privacy concern regarding how posts are currently handled on the platform. As it stands, anyone—even people we don’t know—can follow us and automatically see our posts without our approval. This means that personal content, thoughts, or creative work we share are always exposed to strangers, which doesn’t allow much room for control or boundaries. For many users, including myself, this feels like a significant privacy issue. Not everyone is comfortable with having their posts visible to the entire IMVU community at any given moment. Social platforms today (such as Instagram, TikTok, and even Facebook) all provide options to manage who can follow you and who can see your posts. Having those same choices here would help users feel safer and more in control of their experience. Here are a few specific features that I think would greatly improve privacy and user comfort: Follower Approval: Instead of allowing anyone to follow us freely, there should be an option to approve or deny new followers before they can see our posts. Hide Posts from Public View: Users should be able to make posts visible only to selected groups (such as friends or followers) instead of having everything automatically public. Audience Controls per Post: Just like on TikTok or Facebook, each post could include an option to choose its audience—for example, share with all followers, only close friends, or exclude certain individuals entirely. These types of settings would give people the flexibility to decide who they want to share with. It would also allow users to continue expressing themselves while still protecting their privacy.
I truly believe that stronger privacy options would not only make the community feel safer but also encourage more people to engage and post freely, knowing they have control over their audience. Thank you for considering this suggestion, and I’d love to hear the community’s thoughts as well.
