Does IMVU intend to update its Desktop App to support the forthcoming release of Golden Gate 28 by Apple?    The present app is supported by Intel - not Apple Silicon.

Hello @1Mike

No IMVU has not officially announced any plans to update its Desktop App to natively support Apple Silicon ahead of the upcoming macOS 28 Golden Gate release.
This presents a critical compatibility issue for Mac users due to the following technical reasons:
  • The End of Rosetta 2 Support: The current IMVU Desktop App relies entirely on the legacy Intel architecture. It has been running on Apple Silicon chips (M1, M2, M3, etc.) via Apple's Rosetta 2 translation layer. However, Apple has confirmed that macOS 27 Golden Gate is the final version to include Rosetta 2. The upcoming macOS 28 will drop Intel application support entirely.
  • App Failure on Upgrade: Once macOS 28 is released and installed, the IMVU Desktop App will completely fail to launch on Apple Silicon Macs unless IMVU releases a native ARM64 build before the operating system update rolls out.
  • Available Workarounds: If IMVU does not deliver an update in time, users will be forced to either hold off on the macOS 28 upgrade, switch to the web-based client (IMVU Next), or run the Windows version of the app through virtualization software like Parallels Desktop.

If you want to prepare for this upcoming transition, let me know if you would like me to:
  • Guide you on how to verify your Mac's processor type (Intel vs. Apple Silicon) to see if your system is affected.
  • Provide template text to contact IMVU Support and request an official status update on their desktop client roadmap.
  • Explore the best alternative methods for running the application smoothly on the new macOS
