IMVU takes security very seriously. Because of this, we may attempt to verify your identity when making sensitive transactions. These transactions include retrieving lost passwords and deactivated accounts, processing orders, or making changes to personal information (birth date, etc.).

During such cases, we may ask you to send us a scanned copy of your ID. To verify your ownership of these documents, we may also request you to send us a selfie while holding these.

REMEMBER:
Please do not send us your selfie or ID photos unless we ask for them.

In addition, we will never ask a minor for an ID or selfie. However, if the situation involves any type of form of payment, we may ask for the authorized payer's ID for verification purposes.

What IDs are considered valid?

  • Only valid government-issued IDs are accepted (Driver's license, State ID, National ID, Passport, Military ID, etc.) Birth certificates and Social Security cards will not be accepted, as these contain private and sensitive information.

  • For non-US IDs, they must have letters in the Roman alphabet and/or have an English translation.

What information must be visible on my ID?

The following information must be visible:

  • Photo
  • Expiration date (if applicable)
  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Complete address

Note: Some IDs have the necessary information at the back. You may combine the two sides into one image to make it easier to upload.

What are the guidelines for sending my ID and Selfie with ID?

The following would make the Selfie with ID invalid:

1. Blurry, grainy, dark, or in any way unreadable photos.
2. Photocopied documents.
3. Expired documents.
4. IDs with non-Roman Alphabet characters and no English translations.
5. Covering essential parts of the ID, like your name and photo

Selfie Tips:

  • Ask for assistance from a family member or friend to take a picture of you holding your ID.
  • Make sure that your fingers do not cover any details on your ID while holding it.
  • Make sure your entire face is visible in the photo and that the information on your ID is legible. Avoid wearing sunglasses, caps, or masks.
  • Mirror selfies will not be accepted.
  • Pictures of yourself without holding the documents will not be accepted.
  • Pictures of you holding your ID but not showing your entire face will not be accepted.
