Avatar Attachment products are products that have their own skeleton and are not weighted to the avatar skeleton. They are derived from or have a base derivation from one of the following products:
- Glasses Spice Lagoon (PID 682)
- Glasses King Gold (PID 669)
- Empty Female Accessory (PID 11106442)
- Empty Male Accessory (PID 11106472)
- Empty Female Accessory (PID 56816049)
- Empty Male Accessory (PID 56919490)
Previously, irrespective of their compatibility settings (be it for male (191) or female (80) avatars), these products could be worn by both genders across platforms. This inclusivity was primarily to accommodate products like pets intended for universal use.
A recent update had a change to make this the case on all platforms (IMVU Web, Desktop, and Mobile), consistent with the Classic Client.
What’s new?
No new PIDs! The change emphasizes product-specific compatibility without introducing new Product IDs. Based on Creator feedback, we've enhanced the Avatar Attachment product type. Now, compatibility settings are honored, enabling creators to determine which gender suits their product best or decide its catalog appearance.
How does this affect Creators?
This change only affects Avatar Attachment products that have been submitted through IMVU Studio. Once an Avatar Attachment product has been submitted through Studio, it will honor whichever compatibility setting is set in the “Info” panel.
Moving forward, Avatar Attachment products will default to ‘Unisex’ in IMVU Studio during edits or derivations. This preserves the historical behavior of these products.
There are some differences in the behavior of Avatar Attachment products in the Classic Creator as compared to Studio. If an Avatar Attachment product has been edited or derived in Classic Creator and has not been submitted by Studio, then its compatibility will remain unchanged unless the Creator makes changes to it.
This means that:
If an Avatar Attachment product is set to compatibility to 80, such as one derived from PID 682 ‘Glasses Spice Lagoon,’ it will still be perceived as unisex unless the compatibility is changed.
- In order to have an Avatar Attachment product set to compatibility 80 or 191 respect the compatibility it is set to, you will need to temporarily change the compatibility to something different, click ‘Apply Changes’, and then change it back. This behavior is live as of Classic Client Version 546.2.
Considerations
While this enhancement streamlines the user experience, there are potential pitfalls to be aware of, particularly concerning the compatibility and categorization mismatches. Such mismatches, whether due to conflicting gender settings or categorization discrepancies, can lead to unpredictable catalog browsing and product wearing experiences.
This can happen in two cases:
1. The compatibility is set to a gender opposite of the category the product belongs to.
2. The product gets categorized to a gender opposite of what the compatibility is set to. (This can only be done via the Classic Client when ‘Submit to any Category’ is enabled in the settings).
