[Archived - mofaux] Why is IMVU Studio getting stuck on the loading screen?

I went to open Studio and noticed it was stuck on the loading screen. It stays grey and has the yellow pulse dot that shows its loading in the middle. I decided to uninstall the program and reinstall it. After I restarted, then came back to install the program, nothing has changed. It's completely grayed out and will never load. It's almost as if it's in a loop of loading the entire time. I'm downloading and attempting to install the latest version so I'm a bit confused. Is anyone else having trouble with this?

Thanks @mofaux​ and @KellyJo​ for the update. Sorry to hear Studio is being so unpredictable. If you do notice a pattern to the issues, like textures missing, product gives the same error, etc. we would really like to know and would appreciate it as it is a bit tough to gather accurate information from the field so we can reproduce the issue in-house. Thank you!

I can't recall when I last saw that gray loading screen. Might've been a couple of weeks ago. So I logged out, cleared cache, rebooted my computer and then was able to get into the studio, luckily. The remedy that you suggested that we all do, a couple of months ago, where we locate that file, place it on the desktop and then later on, return it to it's original spot I don't care for, as one time all my projects were gone and I about had a heart attack trying to get them all back! The studio is really a very picky app. One day it works, another day it doesn't. I'm surprised that there are still a number of glitches from assets disappearing when going back into a saved draft or even a submitted project. Many times, I will create items, get them all set up to submit for LATER, and when LATER arrives, I go to pull up those projects and it's like they are corrupt and there is no fixing them, so I have to delete the saved project and start over. So when you have to recreate something 5 times, that is really ridiculous. So now, I can only create 4 projects at a time, leave the tabs open and submit 2-4 items each day, cause once I save a project and close out studio, it's hit and miss if the project will still be there in good standing, the way that I left it, upon signing back in.

I believe it’s fixed for me as of right now. It honestly comes and goes. I’ve not been super consistent with creating so i can only speak for when I am on. If it does seem to only load a blank screen, I’ll try uninstalling and reinstalling and most times that works. Otherwise I just abandon it for a long while until it for some reason works again.

@LestatDeLioncourt​ , yes the download page is the previous version and immediately after that version loaded, the program alerted me that there was an update.

@KellyJo​ Are you downloading the newest version? It should be 1.18.1

There is an error on the Downlaod Page at the moment. It is giving the older version

1.17.3 instead.

I do understand the frustration with this issue. I too, experience this issue now and again.

 

  • I had the issue of "Studio Not Loading" yesterday morning for about 10 min. I tried to load Studio over and over again. I waited another 10 min and tried again without doing a thing and it just worked, fine. Boom just like normal.

 

Is there a chance my Internet connection to IMVU Servers was at temporary loss? IDK.

 

  • A friend of mine said she was having the issue a couple of days ago. She logged out of the Studio and back in then it worked immediately. IDK

 

I guess we are all still learning the temperaments of the Studio and what it takes to make it go. I remember back when they finally figured out Clearing Cache on the Classic Client would fix "this and fix that". Those issues were so apparent, they eventualy incorporated the Settings, Advanced, Clear Cache deal in the old Client. LoL

 

I think; in a way, we are all "Pioneers" in the realms of IMVU Studio and new platforms. The feedback we give here is invaluable to the Engineering Staff. In a way, we are helping to "shape" the new clients and Creator Tools.

The steps that you are having us do are not natural. I just did everything you suggested and this time, all my drafts were missing. It's a good thing that I didn't empty the recycle bin as I restored everything that was in there.

 

Something like this, should be placed top on the list of things to fix, as it not only impacts the user/creator but also, IMVU. Without creators and the money they generate for the company, the company will fail. Surely you realize this.

 

How can the Studio be operating fine, every single min of the day, every day, and then, suddenly, without any notice...it's like the plug is pulled, and everything stops. We should absolutely not have to keep uninstalling the program, shuffling files around, deleting the contents of another file, and then...sit with our fingers crossed, hoping that all our projects are still there when we reinstall.

 

Why are there new updates to the studio all the time when every update doesn't help the situation at hand? If we can't access the Studio, then...common sense tells me that we cannot access the new particles, emission, etc. So...fix what needs fixing first.

For anyone wwith the issue of lost Studio Projects, copy the projects folder moved back to the folder..

 

%userprofile%\Documents\IMVU Studio Projects

 

If the problem comes back, you may have a corrupt project. They would be delete or moved one by to determine which one is corrupt.

 

If all is well, continue :)

All is right in the world of Studio now! I hope your department can come up with a better way of handling this issue, to where we are not shuffling things around and why this happens now, every month, on schedule, it seems!

UPDATE: Did everything again, and got the Studio to load, but several of my 'saved' not submitted projects are missing now. Is that because I 'moved' that one file, as per your instruction? If so, I now need to move that file back, where do I move it to? As I tried to paste in what you posted above, into the Windows search box, and it shows 'no results' for where it is now.

(1) I deleted the contents of that file, earlier today. (2) I relocated that 'other' file to the desktop, earlier today. (3) I uninstalled the Studio, as per your instruction, rebooted the computer and reinstalled it and got the same gray loading screen that does nothing. (4) Uninstalled again, rebooted again, loaded current version again and same result. (5) Repeated all of the above AGAIN, and still, nothing. (6) Please tell me the exact steps that I need to do, to run a hardrive diagnostic. I had no idea that getting involved with the Studio was going to cause me so much stress and computer troubleshooting and digging around, sheesh!!

Hi @KellyJo​ Try these steps again, please...

 

Delete Contents of :

%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\imvu-studio

 

Move file from this location :

%userprofile%\Documents\IMVU Studio Projects

 

Reinstall the IMVU Studio from Here: https://create.imvu.com/imvu-studio-download/

 

If the issue continues again later, I would consider running diagnostics on the Hard Disk Drive. There may be some corrupt files there that need to be repaired.
