Meshers Manipulating MCG is getting out of hand

I've spoken/been ignored by imvu for years on this. But why do meshers not get punished for breaking the IMVU ToS? And please do not say report the item. It does not work. Frankly I believe the only reason meshers are doing it in the first place is because they see other meshers getting away with it, so it spreads like wildfire. And I get their frustrations, because they have to compete against people who don't get punished for it. I do not think most of these meshers would manipulate the MCG in the first place if it weren't the fact IMVU refuses to ever punish a mesher for it. So naturally they have to risk their accounts to have a fighting chance against those who do. It's absolutely ridiculous and needs to be addressed. Not just addressed, but action needs to be taken. Clearly every mesher has seen IMVU is not home when it comes to enforcing the rules.

Great question @Polystyrene. Our staff goes through all items that have been flagged by the community.

I like the idea of IMVU paying a "bounty" for finding the infractions published in the Catalog.

That doesn't feel like a great solution to be honest.

I would suggest either adding a flag feature to Peer review, Or send out a reminder to ALL creators about manipulating the mcg being against the TOS and being a bannable offense.

Plus reminding people when doing peer to make sure the mcg is an appropriate size/hasnt been modified and to fail it if it does (which literally is just adding a sentence or 2 to the PR page's html, it should take less than 5 minutes to add).

These products should not be passing PR in the first place, let alone getting to the front pages of the catalog in sales. To allow them to do so sets a very bad precedent and rehashes all the points members have made in this thread.

If this is the case, then what is the point of having PR?

IKR, I have been flaggig a GA product with semi-nude Icon for weeks (nudity). CS Staff doesn't get it.

I wish we had 20 character Note: on the Product Flag Page to give them a "hint" of what they are looking for... :/

Hi All,

Thank you again for flagging these. Just a reminder that if you see MCG violations, we encourage you to flag them. The vast majority of products go through peer review without being escalated to staff.

I am seeing one on the front page and the mesher still has the mesh active.

Even the shop pictures should be flagged as AP, this just shows you how broken the system is.

Awesome. Thank all of those (members & Staff) who took time to protect our young people!

Now the next Milestones...

Getting more Members of IMVU to see and flag these in the catalog & be brave enough to Fail in Peer Review.

Training all Staff so they understand the next time those Help Cases come in...

I wish this would be taken more seriously. It causes a number of issues and I will try to address as many as I can think of here:

  1. Purchasing AP feels unprofitable if such items are available in the GA catalog. AP catalog has little more to offer than what is currently available in the GA catalog. Therefore people don't have to purchase AP to be able to access these kinds of items.
  2. Minors have access to these items. If minors got around to getting AP and lying about their age, they would be banned for their own protection, however, now that they have access to these items in the GA catalog, nobody is doing anything about it. I wouldn't care for this point if IMVU's policy wasn't very strict around making their app a minor-friendly place.
  3. The idea behing MCG skin is completely invalid if these products are allowed to pass as GA. The whole idea of the MCG skin is to hide certain parts of the body. Just because the mesh makes the texture warp differently, that doesn't change the idea behind MCG being a GUIDELINE for hiding a certain amount of skin.
  4. Meshers who abide the TOS are losing relevancy. Most of the meshers are here to make a living out of their earnings on IMVU. How are they supposed to stay relevant when they have to compete against something that is technically agains the TOS and allows GA users to purchase things that should be in the AP catalog. This opens up a whole new market of people who don't have to make any additional purchases to access the AP catalog.
  5. IT IS AGAINST THE CURRENT TOS. It would only be right to either change the current TOS or deal with those who are violating the rules. Things need to be urgently addressed because this affects real people's lives. There are those who pay their bills with their IMVU income.

There was someone who recently did this and when questioned by the group they said "I sent it to VU staff and they approved every single item" - so I have to wonder how many are getting it "Approved" as okay but the items aren't actually being checked? Not to mention I think people see it from bigger creators or see it on the first page and go "Well it clearly MUST be okay to do this" so they do it too or derive from it. Because there is a belief that it wouldn't last long if it wasn't allowed.

I know I've seen this as a hot debate in a handful of creator groups lately and the general consensus as been "While I wouldn't do it, I guess it's okay since IMVU hasn't put a stop to it already" - and I wonder how much people forget that IMVU isn't omnipotent, we need to inform them of these problems due to how small of a team it really is. They can't catch everything. So I'm super glad to see that it's up here and put so much better than I could've!

I think this issue is actually much bigger than just a few meshes manipulating the MCG guidelines.

I personally think this is a well organized affair which will, inevitably, become impossible to contain, and set the new standard for IMVU's GA catalog, if nothing continues to be done.

I mean, if you just look at the Derivation Tree for the products in question it's spread through DOZENS of sock puppet accounts before even reaching the product in violation. Which will make enforcing any type of disciplinary action, by current procedural methods, to the accounts or products impossible since there are so many.

The reason for this is these accounts are being run by some Canadian company. (It's advertised on some these accounts.) Which means they are just gonna keep pumping these types of products and pushing them to the front pages by means of mass gifting throughout their company's numerous sock accounts. (You can check the "My Rankings" on their homepages to verify this.)

I really think IMVU should prioritize this issue NOW and find a solution before this gets any bigger. You literally have children out here wearing products that should be rated AP. That's not a good look.

THIS.

I do not understand how these products continue to exists when they clearly violate TOS. It literally says it right there.
