I think if someone does not log into their account for over a year, that the username from that account should be made available to anyone again.
Then if that original user ever does login to their account again, they should be notified that the username expired and has been taken by someone else. And then prompted to choose a new username.
It would also be nice if their was a system where we could sign up to be notified of a username we would like to use if it expires and becomes avaliable.
I think this system is only fair, that people should have the opportunity to create a username they would like to have if no one else is logging into it, as they are likely never to log into it again after a year.
And it's not too much to expect that you should have to login to your account at least once a year to keep your username.
So many thousands of desirable usernames just go to waste with the system as it is.
Thank you.

Still disagree entirely.
To say I have had friends not be able to login to their account for over a year against their will due to illness just seems like a justification grasping at straws.
Can it actually happen? Sure.
But that is obviously EXTREMELY RARE.
Meanwhile, FAR MORE COMMON is people just moving on to new account names and leaving TONS of desireble names to rot in the abyss forever.
It is BEYOND REASONABLE to require people who can't login to their account for over a year to have to choose a new username if their expired username is reclaimed.
Yes, they lose the recognition of the username and "brand."
That is all they lose. They still have all their investment and creations now having to be branded under a new username.
That is a small price to pay for an extremely rare situation when the benefit would accommodate massive amounts of people.
And obviously we don't have to charge them for a name change token when being prompted to choose a new username due to expiration.
This is BEYOND REASONABLE considering how rare it is for someone to be unable to login to their account against their will as opposed to the massive amount of desirable usernames left to never be used again.
Just because something has been refused to be done doesn't mean it is justified.
Hell, they refuse to do something as simple as give us a friends only whisper and invite option which everyone has been crying for forever.
So of course I don't expect them to do something much bigger like this despite how reasonable and pleasing it would be for the extreme majority of people.
I'm just arguing the principle.
I'm sorry, this justification just seems silly and neglectful to common sense reasoning.

Again Jessica, this has been debated for well over the last decade or so and has never changed, and yes they would lose their investment, some of these users paid alot of money for their names via the Premium name path and they wont get that back, some users are creators/meshers, if they lose their name they lose their product recognition, given the amount of work creators and meshers put into their products and icons, its not feasible or fair, so yes they also lose their investment and the money because they would have to pay out again for a name change token to rectify the theft of their name, along with redoing everything to match their name and trademarks that they have. I have had friends who have been off of here for a year because of ill health, theyve only just recovered and come back, how can you justify taking their name because of something like that, when its out of their control. Im sorry but this whole idea is moot and has been debated and answered so many times, i think this dead horse has been flogged enough

I'm not saying expire their account. Just the username. It is more than reasonable for someone who leaves their account unused for a year to have to choose a new username.
I'm sorry, I just greatly disagree with this justification. It is obviously far more often that so many desirable usernames are left to rot in the abyss forever than for someone to be unable to login at least once a year against their will.

By sheer volume of the benifit to so many, and the drawback to so few, I don't believe not making this a policy is justified at all.

Hi Jessica, users login as Real life allows allows be it family, work, illness whatever the reason, and again users purchase their names, they belong to that person regardless, it not fair that if a user were away for any length of time for a myriad of reasons, (some of which may cause them not to be able to log in at any given time), to come back and lose your name that you paid real life money for just because someone else wanted it, IMVU would have to refund every user that purchased their name, including ones who brought a premium name, and that isnt going to happen, Im sorry , yes its unfair, but that is how its been on IMVU for all these years, its the same on many social sites, and they all have similar rules, and its not going to change anytime soon.

But isn't it reasonable to make a policy that a user should have to login in at least once a year or two?
I mean, so many good usernames that people would like to use, that are just left for years and years unused.
It hardly seems fair.
If you login back into your account after a year or two, and find that you have to choose a new username, that would make a lot more sense to me.

Hi Jessica, this has been asked many times over the years on here, yes users may be off for some time for various reasons RL etc and a great many return to IMVU and to their name, many users have purchased/registered their names on IMVU over time, these names cannot simply be recycled, the only one that tend to be reused are those attached to Guest_ name users, yes there are lots of names that are sought after but they are owned at this time.
