It has been brought to the community's attention today that a popular badger under the name of Plz has been banned for "money laundering."
She was given NO explanation as to what this entails. All she was told, when she called, was to create another ticket. Why should she have to make a SECOND account just to fight for her right to be on IMVU? She has not done ANYTHING to violate community guidelines and has been cashing all of her credits out for cash without hassle for a very long time. This is unacceptable and this type of behavior is why people are leaving IMVU and moving to better sites such as Second Life.
IMVU, you need to unban Plz and work on revising your creator program TOS, you all wonder why the site is dying and continue to do this kind of stuff, banning people without giving proper explanation to the users that GENERATE YOUR INCOME. It is UNACCEPTABLE considering most of us have spent THOUSANDS of dollars on this website/chat software. Please listen to your creators/users!

IMVU’s Terms of Service (TOS) don’t specifically clarify that credits earned from stickers, like those used for badge purchases, are not eligible for cash-out. While the TOS highlight that credits from legitimate product sales (such as clothing and accessories) are acceptable for cashing out, they don’t specify whether credits from stickers or badges qualify. This lack of clear communication can lead to confusion, as stickers generate credits that are typically viewed as cashable.
The issue here stems from this ambiguity in IMVU’s policies. It’s understandable that the user didn’t anticipate any problems, but the TOS don’t provide the clear boundaries needed to differentiate between eligible and ineligible credit sources. The responsibility lies with IMVU for not explicitly outlining the eligibility of credits earned from badges or stickers. Without clear communication on this, creators might unknowingly violate policies.
IMVU should revise their Creator Program TOS to clearly define which credits are eligible for cash-out, especially regarding badges and stickers. This will prevent creators from unintentionally violating the rules and ensure a more transparent and fair approach.
As for whether the user should be unbanned, while IMVU has the right to enforce its policies, a clearer explanation of these rules could have prevented the issue. Given the unclear guidelines in the TOS and the user’s long history without violations, it would be more reasonable for IMVU to give the creator a chance to amend the situation rather than issue a permanent ban. IMVU should consider reviewing its enforcement process and ensure that creators fully understand what is allowed before penalties are applied.

IMVU’s Creator Program Terms: Clarification Needed on Cashable Credits
IMVU’s current Terms of Service and Creator Program policies are unclear regarding the treatment of credits earned through sticker purchases for badges, which has led to confusion among creators, including in the case of the account in question.
In the Creator Program Terms, it is clearly stated that only credits earned from catalog items (such as avatar clothing and accessories) and In-App Purchases are eligible to be converted into cash or royalties
Community Center. However, stickers and badges, which can also generate credits, are not specifically mentioned as valid sources for cash-out. This leaves room for confusion, as many creators may believe that all credits earned through sales, including stickers, are eligible for cash-out, when they are not. IMVU’s guidelines regarding what qualifies as a “legitimate source of money” for cashing out are not fully transparent, and this lack of clarity is what ultimately led to the suspension or banning of the user involved.
While it is reasonable for IMVU to enforce policies regarding cashable credits, there is a lack of clear communication about the specific eligibility of credits earned through sticker transactions. This is not the creator’s fault, as the rules are not defined in a way that would allow a creator to easily understand what is and isn’t allowed. As the policies stand now, creators are left to guess whether certain items, such as badges or stickers, are eligible for cash-out.
The Terms of Service should be updated to explicitly clarify that credits earned from items like stickers and badges are not eligible for cash-out, or if they are, to define clear rules for these items to prevent any confusion in the future. For example, the policy should specify if stickers are treated differently from catalog products and outline the restrictions clearly.
IMVU needs to revise the Creator Program Terms to include clear guidelines about which sources of credits are valid for cash withdrawal. By failing to provide this clarification, IMVU has set creators up for confusion and potential account issues. In light of this, I believe the user in question should be given the chance to amend the situation, as their actions were based on unclear policies that they were not properly informed about.
In conclusion, while IMVU has the right to enforce their policies, the lack of clear communication in the TOS makes this situation more of a failure on their part. A more transparent and precise policy would help ensure that creators can avoid these misunderstandings in the future.
