Avatars with animated faces possible in IMVU

I’ve been playing with Live2D and wondering if avatars in IMVU can have animated expressions like blinking eyes or wiggling accessories.
I tried overlaying a PNG sequence in chat windows but it feels clunky and looks laggy.
Has anyone made expressive avatars that animate live rather than just swapping static images?

Is it even possible in chat or rooms?

Yeah, IMVU is kinda limited that way. You can swap images or use stickers, but real live animations like blinking usually don’t work in chat or rooms. Best you can do is simple frame swaps or look for products with pre-made effects.

Yeah, IMVU’s pretty limited for live animations, most folks stick to swapping static looks. Some use clever GIF loops or accessory toggles, but smooth Live2D-style expressions aren’t really doable natively yet.

Animated faces in IMVU are possible, but super limited. Most people just use frame swaps or texture loops, not true Live2D-style animation

It is tricky in IMVU since it is mostly static images, but some creators use GIFs or layered animations for effects.

Yeah, it's possible, Some avatars on IMVU can have animated faces, like blinking or smiling. It’s not super advanced, but it does add a nice touch and makes them feel more alive.

I’ve tinkered with this a bit too, and yeah—IMVU isn’t exactly built with live animated facial expressions in mind (at least not like Live2D). The platform mostly relies on morphs or pre-set animations baked into avatar items, so anything like blinking or moving accessories has to be rigged into the mesh and triggered via actions or idle animations. That said, some creators get creative with animated textures or timed particle effects for accessories—like tails that sway or blinking lights. It’s not the same as real-time facial tracking, but with clever rigging and animation loops, you can fake a more expressive feel. Works best in rooms, though—chat windows are way more limited. If you’re aiming for more dynamic expression control (like wink on command or reactive blushing), it’s probably gonna take some custom animation triggers and maybe even some scripting via IMVU Studio.
