I have been unfriended and blocked by someone because they believe I was the person who reported them to IMVU for a song they had played while I was in their public chat room. I know IMVU does not disclose who filed a report/complaint. I therefore don't know how to clear my name and restore the friendship. I would like to, because we have several mutual friends and they're now in the difficult situation of having to choose who to believe and not being able to socialise with me in any public room owned by the person who unfriended me. Would IMVU be willing to say who did NOT report the song? Even if they won't say who DID? I don't actually know how to "flag" a song.

I had a feeling this would be the answer. And I am preparing to unfriend all the other people in the friend group so that they are not forced to choose between me and the offended person. I did say when I heard it that the song in question was obscene, not erotic, and so I am the obvious target as the likely "reporter". There were only a few of us in the room at the time. no strangers or people outside our friend group. Unless the trigger song was specially commissioned by my ex friend, and the creator then realised they'd inadvertently made something against TOS and reported it themselves I don't know who else might have done so.
I appreciate your thoughtful response to my question.

Understanding IMVU's Privacy Policy
IMVU maintains strict confidentiality regarding all reports and violations, including who filed them. They will not disclose who DID report content, nor will they confirm who did NOT report it. This policy exists to protect users from retaliation and harassment, so unfortunately, getting official confirmation from IMVU to clear your name isn't possible.
Strategies to Address the Situation
Direct Communication (if possible)
If you can still contact the person through mutual friends, consider sending a calm, honest message explaining that you didn't report the song and don't even know how the reporting system works
Ask mutual friends to vouch for your character if they're willing
Document Your Unfamiliarity
Screenshot your IMVU interface showing you're genuinely unfamiliar with the reporting process
This could serve as circumstantial evidence of your innocence
Time and Consistency
Maintain consistent behavior with mutual friends
Let your actions demonstrate your character over time
Avoid speaking negatively about the person who blocked you
Consider the Broader Context
Multiple people could have been in that public chat room
IMVU also has automated systems that detect violations
The report could have come from someone not even present in the room
Managing the Social Fallout
Be patient with mutual friends who feel caught in the middle
Focus on maintaining your existing relationships rather than forcing people to choose sides
Consider that true friends will judge you based on your overall character, not unsubstantiated accusations
Unfortunately, this situation may require patience as the truth often becomes clear over time through consistent behavior and character demonstration.
