Something I Was Just Thinking About

I have been thinking about how cool it would be to have something you design in a virtual world actually exist in real life. Like a statue. Not sure if this is already a thing or just a random thought.

Has anyone seen anything like this around?

Hey @Matthew. That’s actually a really awesome thought, and you’re not alone in thinking that way! There are creators and platforms out there now that let you turn your virtual designs into real-world items. For example, platforms like My3dselfie let you turn 3D avatars or models into actual statues or collectible figures. There’s also Sketchfab and Blender for designing, and you can export those models for 3D printing using services like Shapeways or Thingiverse.  So yeah, the idea is very real and very doable.

Whoa, I’ve thought about that too! Like, imagine holding a piece of your virtual world in your hands… that’s next-level creativity. It’s wild how the lines between digital and real life are getting blurrier every day.

@Jillian30 You make a great point, doing thorough research is definitely important with these kinds of services. Personally, I have been a long-time customer of My3dselfie and have ordered several custom figurines from them over the years. They have consistently delivered good quality, so I trust their work.

That’s why I found Phygital particularly interesting, it’s from the same team behind My3dselfie. It builds on what they have already been doing, but adds a new layer by letting you use your digital avatar and get a physical version of it. For someone who’s into both virtual design and collectibles, that connection made a lot of sense to me.

I have been following this idea for a while and I think it is exciting. With 3D printers now widely available and so many online services out there, bringing digital creations into the real world has never been more accessible. But do your research before choosing any provider. Check independent reviews on third-party websites rather than relying solely on a company’s own testimonials, as they have limited control over external feedback.

There are plenty of solid options for 3D printing out there. I’m a digital artist myself and have had great experiences with a local printer for my designs. For online options, Shapeways is a trusted platform known for quality and a broad selection of materials, though it is smart to compare quotes since costs can vary. Craftcloud (https://www.craftcloud3d.com) is another solid option.

Someone mentioned “phygital”, you can check phygitals.io, McFarlane Toys, Phygi.io, Imagineria and ClubRare. These look promising.

Just checked out https://phygital.my3dselfie.com/ — it's honestly awesome! Loved the whole concept, super easy to use. Such a cool idea! I’ve already booked my slot. Worth checking out if you're into something a bit different.

@Guest Oh absolutely, it’s really catching fire lately! I have been keeping an eye on Kickstarter myself and backing a few projects here and there. Just recently, I stumbled across this upcoming launch that takes things a step further they are offering fully custom 3D digital avatars plus a physical figurine, bundled together for the same price. That idea had me curious, excited, and honestly a bit awestruck. So, I went ahead and grabbed a VIP spot to lock in their early-backer pricing figured why not ride the wave early? Here is the link if you want to check it out too: https://phygital.my3dselfie.com/.

Gotta admit, it feels like the future is getting real, piece by piece, both virtually and physically.

Yeah, it's starting to become a thing! Some creators are getting their avatars or in-game designs turned into physical statues or figurines.

@_Johnyo Totally. Even as a small shelf piece, it would be a solid way to celebrate your character. Gonna check out that VTuberLab article, it sounds like this might be where things are headed.

@Moonberry1 What I like is that it’s not just about merch. If you’ve built your model from scratch, getting a physical version feels more like preserving your creative identity than just selling something.

@Moonberry Yeah, phygital just means blending digital and physical. So you’d stream with your avatar and have it as a figure you can actually hold. Kind of cool how that blurs the lines.

@Luca There’s actually a new Kickstarter called Phygital that’s doing exactly that, mixing digital avatars with real-world figures. It’s still early, but the whole idea of blending physical and digital identity is super interesting.

@_Johnyo Honestly, with VTuber avatars being full 3D models, I have thought about this too. Like what if you could actually “own” a small version of your VTuber self? Not just in game, but something physical.

That’s such an interesting thought. I have wondered the same especially with how detailed 3D avatars are getting. It feels like we are not too far from being able to do that, even if it’s just a 3D model or something.
