Stronger Separation Between GA and AP in Private Rooms

We’ve made an update to strengthen the separation between General Audience (GA) and Access Pass (AP) experiences in private rooms. Previously, when GA users were invited to a private room containing AP content, they could still join the room but would see the shimmer effect instead of the user’s avatar.

With this update, GA users will no longer be able to enter private rooms that contain AP content.

In addition, this update further reinforces GA and AP boundaries in other situations. Users wearing AP products will not be able to invite GA users, and users wearing AP content will not be able to join GA public rooms.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and consistent experience across the community.

What is this [Moderated]? Now I can't sit in my GA room with my avitar that I PAID GOOD MONEY for, all because I smoke? What, are you afraid of? That I will give other Avitars virtual cancer?  My Rooms are GA to show off all the GA items I have created over the almost 20 years I've been here. I don't solicit (pixel) sex, push drugs, or sit around in the nude. Some of my friends can't afford AP, or even their name, so now they are not allowed to come visit me? Now I can't sit in it to attract possible customers?  It's bad enough you FORCED me into buying VIP, even though I was grandfathered, so I can sell my items or the changing of the Adult Pass (to allow Adult content) into the Access Pass (taking away adult content) NOW you take away my ability to express myself and endure the boredom of sitting around waiting to meet new people?"  Maybe I should just break my over 6000 items and tell everyone [Moderated]. IMVU has [Moderated] you.  I should have known IMFU would rapidly go down hill after the virtual Zoom meeting I attended, when the new CEO called IMFU a "game". IMVU is not a game, it is a chat program with a 3D enviroment. Allowing you to Role Play if you so choose.

This update creates more problems than it solves because it limits inclusion, hurts community interaction, and reduces user freedom. While the goal may be to separate experiences, it ends up dividing users in a way that feels unnecessary and unfair.

First, this change creates a strong sense of exclusion. Before, General Audience (GA) users could still join private rooms and participate, even if they could not fully access certain Access Pass (AP) features. That system allowed people to stay connected with friends and communities. Now, completely blocking GA users from entering these rooms shuts them out entirely. This can make users feel left out, especially if their friends or groups are using AP content. Instead of creating a better experience, it creates barriers between people.

Second, this update damages social interaction, which is a core part of any online platform. Communities grow when people can interact freely, regardless of what features they have. By preventing AP users from inviting GA users and restricting where users can go based on what they are wearing, the platform is limiting natural interaction. Friends may no longer be able to meet in the same spaces, and group activities become harder to organize. This goes against the purpose of building a connected and engaging community.

Third, the update reduces user freedom and flexibility. Users should be able to choose how they interact and what spaces they enter. The previous system already protected AP content by showing a shimmer effect, which prevented unauthorized access while still allowing participation. That was a balanced solution. The new restrictions go too far by removing choice completely instead of improving existing protections.

Finally, this change may actually hurt the platform overall. When users feel restricted or excluded, they are less likely to stay engaged. GA users may feel pressured to upgrade just to participate with others, which can come across as unfair or forced. At the same time, AP users may feel limited because they can no longer invite or interact with a wider audience. This could lead to frustration on both sides and reduce overall user satisfaction.

In conclusion, while the update aims to create clearer boundaries, it ends up harming inclusion, limiting social interaction, and reducing user freedom. A better approach would be to improve the existing system—like the shimmer effect—so that content is protected without blocking people from participating. Platforms should focus on bringing users together, not separating them.

I understand and respect the platform’s concern for the safety of all users. However, I would like to raise an important issue regarding the separation between AP and GA content.

From what I’ve observed, many of these changes seem to have been influenced by specific regulations in Brazil, but were implemented globally. This ends up affecting users from different countries who have different contexts and rules.

Additionally, I believe there is a more critical issue that needs attention: the use of modified programs and exploits within the platform. There are many users who bypass the system and are able to use AP items through commands (such as *use + product ID) without having proper access. I have already reported tools like “T4de” and similar programs multiple times, but unfortunately I have not seen effective action taken.

Given this, I question whether it is truly effective to separate users who use AP clothing into GA +18 rooms, while there are still vulnerabilities that allow the system to be bypassed.

I believe IMVU should prioritize identifying and punishing these illegal methods, ensuring a fairer and more effective level of security for everyone, rather than applying broad restrictions that mainly affect users who follow the rules.

Thank you for your attention, and I hope this issue can be reviewed more carefully.

This update has been the most ridiculous update you've ever done! It's pointless you offer to be VIP, AP and wherever when we can't use clothes or just enter to cute and nice GA rooms using AP clothes. That statement about "boundaries between GA and AP" just reinforce how desperate you are for us to keep wasting our money on you! I will not spend any penny on your app. If I want to take photos, ohh I can't because I'm AP!!?? You should be thankful I'm paying you! You better fix this nonsense! I won't be surprised but 100% sure pissed that you will flag every person that is standing and raising their voices on this ridiculous update. Do better!

If you want clear boundries, make underaged Rooms GA only and introduce a Room Option so User can choose if a room is GA Only.
But instead you make us Choose between the Stuff we bought and our non AP friends and pressure those people to buy AP.

What exactly are you improving with this update? Nothing!!!

You’re contributing to a divide in the community because none of the AP users feel like adapting every single time!

How many times have users who only have GA asked if they could quickly take off the AP stuff to take pictures—what was the problem with that?

AP users paid for that!! You’re punishing AP users with this update, not GA users!!!  This platform thrives on users who regularly invest money in it—whether it’s buying credits, monthly VIP memberships, name tokens, or whatever else!!!

No more money as long as I can’t even get into my own rooms with my AP avatar! No more money for VIP or credits! And everyone should do the same—maybe you’ll finally learn to make updates for the users, not against them!

We understand that this update may feel restrictive, especially for AP users who are used to freely moving between GA and AP spaces without needing to adjust their avatar or setup.

The goal of this change is to create a clearer and more consistent separation between GA and AP experiences across the platform. This helps support a safer environment by reinforcing clear boundaries around age-restricted content. While AP includes age verification, maintaining this separation helps ensure those experiences remain appropriately limited and reduces situations where access could otherwise become unclear.

Previously, some scenarios allowed mixed interactions that could lead to confusion or inconsistent behavior. This update standardizes those boundaries so expectations are more predictable for everyone.

It also helps improve experiences in larger events and social spaces, where activities like taking photos can be disrupted when AP content is present. With clearer separation, these moments can happen more smoothly without unexpected limitations.

That said, we recognize the friction this introduces, particularly around needing to switch outfits or manage how you enter different spaces. We are actively listening to this feedback and exploring ways to reduce that friction while still maintaining clear separation between GA and AP environments.

We appreciate everyone sharing their thoughts and experiences. Your feedback is helping inform how we continue to improve this system.

I'm seriously wondering how this update is supposed to be an improvement. The old system was perfectly fine. But now AP members are being punished because they're being told what they're allowed to wear.... Total nonsense.... You're going to lose more people this way than you're going to make happy... Now you have to create a new avatar every time so you’re compatible with GA or AP (depending on who you want to chat with...) But the main thing is that we’ve all paid for AP for now. Thanks for that

I just don't get how things can keep getting worse. We pay for AP and can't even go into our own rooms anymore? Meeting new people is only possible if you're dressed up... even though a lot of GA shows way more skin than some APs. So now we can only have AP rooms because sometimes a song is AP or even lights!!! It would be nice if this were reversed as soon as possible and if more attention were paid to the “jumps out of the room” or CRASH boxes. I can't understand how something like this could pass the review.

the game has never been so empty, usually only around 20k players, and now you do this to [Moderated] old players who actually spend money in the game, wow, great way to finish your own game, seriously, congratulations, i couldn't have a [Moderated] idea even trying hard

It's a shame how more and more wedges are being driven into a formerly functioning platform. Everything that used to work without problems is now being made more difficult for customers. Now we have to convert all rooms to AP – which prevents new people or friends without AP from being excluded.

This [Moderated] is really [Moderated], whats the point to even have AP anymore and we can't even join GA rooms.. Even OWNERS CAN'T JOIN THEIR OWN GA ROOMS CUZ THEY HAVE AP STUFF ON?????? smh, this is the worst idea you IMVU workers ever made in YEARS, at least one of the worst ideas of IMVU. I hope this backfires completely.
