IMVU is excited to introduce our new desktop chat software, aptly named IMVU Desktop! Get ready for a more visually spectacular and immersive IMVU experience coming your way. It all begins with this beta!
What is happening?
Apple will be releasing a new version of MacOS, with a major focus on security and performance improvements. With this, Apple has announced that 32-bit apps such as the IMVU Classic (IMVU Client) will no longer be supported.
In response to this, and to prepare for future MacOS versions which will only support 64-bit apps, IMVU has created a whole new chat software which has been released as a beta desktop application for Mac users only. Mac users who upgrade to MacOS 10.15 (Catalina) will need the new IMVU Desktop software, while those remaining on Mojave can still use IMVU Classic (IMVU Client) software. Note that for the time being, this new desktop experience will co-exist with your current IMVU desktop, while we continue to work hard to develop an experience that includes all of your favorite features and more.
Two New Desktop Apps Coming: IMVU Desktop and IMVU Studio
In future releases, the Creator functionality of IMVU will be a separate app from the user chat and avatar experience. As we reviewed your feedback, we concluded that separating the two offerings would improve the experience for both users and Creators, resulting in smaller downloads, independent development on each app, and therefore faster releases for both. The current beta for MacOS already reflects this, with IMVU Desktop being a different app from the Creator functionality, which will be called IMVU Studio.
What about Windows?
IMVU Studio is currently slated to be available for both operating systems as a Private Beta in Fall 2019. If you are interested in being one of the early testers of the new Creator app, please email creator.advocate@imvu.com
Currently, however, PC users can continue their desktop experience as they know it today.
What if I don't update?
If you remain with MacOS 10.14 (Mojave) you will not experience any change in your desktop experience.
Planned features for IMVU Desktop:
Feed. Enjoy the same Feed you enjoy on Mobile! Create your own post, whether text or from the PhotoBooth, Shop the look of your photos via "tags", and like, comment, and share!
Shop. All Shop features will keep you within the app; no need to open a web browser! You can still shop by categories and Creators, and there is also a 3D preview. Items you save here will also be viewable on mobile. Of course, there's Wishlist and gifting.
Dress Up. You can dress up, save and share your look, and create a new Profile Look.
Messaging. Send, receive, and view all messages. You can also create Group Messages, and send WithMojis!
Credits. Buy and earn credits! You can also buy VIP within the app.
Chat Now. Located within the Chat submenu, you can get into a 3D Room and meet users from around the world.
Chat Rooms. Invite friends and manage your rooms on your desktop. Mobile features such as the Node Preview are also present. Manage and see Room Moderators, and check out other new features via the Chatroom Tutorials. Of course, you can shop rooms and furniture, decorate them, and upgrade your rooms, too!
