What is Whisper?

Whisper allows users to chat 1-on-1 when in a chat room! The feature is available on IMVU Classic (IMVU Client), IMVU Desktop and IMVU Mobile (Android and iOS) for Platinum, Diamond, and Emerald VIP users.

Who can use Whisper?

Whisper is an exclusive VIP feature! VIP Platinum, Diamond, and Emerald Subscribers can initiate a Whisper while in Chat. Any user can Whisper back once they receive a Whisper but cannot initiate it unless they have a VIP Platinum, Diamond, or Emerald Subscription.

How do I send a Whisper?

Via IMVU Classic (IMVU Client)
To send a Whisper on IMVU Classic, hover over the username of your recipient in the chat window. You should see a Whisper button appear. Click on this, and then the next message you type will go to that user. For more information, click here!

On IMVU Desktop
To send a Whisper on IMVU Desktop, click on the avatar picture of your recipient in the chat window. A Send Whisper option will appear on the screen. Click on this, and the next message you type will go to that user. For more information on whispering on IMVU Desktop, click here!

On IMVU Mobile
To send a Whisper on IMVU Mobile, tap on the avatar picture of your recipient in the chat window. A Send Whisper option will appear. Tap on this, and the next message you type will go to that user. For more information on whispering on IMVU Mobile, click here!

Note: For all platforms, you need to exit Whisper mode first before being able to send a message to the general chat.

How do I exit Whisper mode?

For all platforms, click the "X" next to the colored “Whispering to” bar in your chat entry field and you'll resume talking to the entire room.

How do I reply to a Whisper?

On IMVU Classic (IMVU Client)
Hover over the Whisper, and click the Reply button. The next message will be sent as a reply to the Whisper sender. For more information on whispering on IMVU Classic, click here!

On IMVU Desktop
Hover over the Whisper, and click the Reply icon that appears at the end of the message. Your next message will be sent as a reply to the Whisper sender. For more information on whispering on IMVU Desktop, click here!

On IMVU Mobile
Tap on the Reply icon that appears at the end of the Whisper. Your next message will be sent as a reply to the Whisper sender. For more information on whispering on IMVU Mobile, click here!

Can I Whisper to more than one user at the same time?

While you can have multiple Whisper threads, each Whisper thread is only between two users. To start Whispering to another user, you need to close out a Whisper with your original Whisper chat.

That Whisper will not disappear, but closing out the original Whisper chat allows you to begin a new Whisper to another user.

You can reply to various Whispers by scrolling through the messages in the Chat window and tapping the Reply button in each. Each separate Whisper thread will be color-coded when you’re whispering on IMVU Mobile and IMVU Desktop.

How can I tell a Whisper apart from other chat messages?

On IMVU Classic (IMVU Client)
Whispered messages appear in italics in your chat window, and are highlighted with the color that is assigned to that user (this color is assigned randomly, and can change when a user exits and re-enters a room).

The Whisper is also prefaced with the words [Sender] whispers: instead of just the sender’s name as in a regular chat.

On IMVU Mobile
Whispered messages appear in italics and in a differently-colored speech bubble, which is the same color as that assigned to that user (this color is assigned randomly, and can change when a user exits and re-enters a room).

The Whisper is also prefaced with [Sender] > you instead of just the sender’s name as in a regular chat.

How can I report a Whisper?

On IMVU Classic (IMVU Client)
To report a Whisper, hover over the offending message and click the Flag button. For more information on whispering on IMVU Classic, click here!

On IMVU Desktop
To report a Whisper on IMVU Desktop, click the offending chat. On the following popup, tap Report Comment. Confirm the action in the next two popup windows to proceed with the report. For more information on whispering on IMVU Desktop, click here!
