We offer a more consistent and stable private chat experience to our customers and while paving the way for future features and enhancements related to chatting. The new experience has been available in IMVU Classic versions 490.14 and up and will be included in our new version 491.0.
Different Rooms Needed for Separate and Simultaneous Chats
You will need to use different rooms from your collection (inventory) for having simultaneous but separate private chats. Same room scene (shell) cannot be used for having two separate chats at the same time.
If you invite a user to a private chat and want to invite another user in a separate chat, you can do so as long as you own 2 room scenes. You can now choose a room for your chat. If you want to invite a third user for a separate chat at the same time but do not have a third room, then you will have to either close one of the ongoing chats or buy a new room.
If you want to invite that person in the room you are already in, you can do the invitation from within the room.
Changing Room Scenes
If you are in a private chat, and you or any other participant would like to change the room scene, the scene will still open in the same tab and you can continue your conversation without any interruption.
Booting and Auto-closing of Private Chats
Booting is now available in private chats. As a room owner, you can choose to boot any participant in your private chat.
If a host of a private chat leaves the room, that room will close automatically in 2 minutes. The participants in the chat will see a message at intervals during that 2-minute period warning them of the room closure.
If the host decides to re-join the chat within that 2-minute interval, they can do so and still have all the other participants in the chat.
Other participants can also choose to continue their chat, as long as one of them switches the scene to one of their own rooms during the 2-minute auto-closure warning period.
Location of Message Dialogs Inside the Chat Room
Message dialogs shown inside a room regarding invite notifications, loading products, etc. have been moved to the right side of the screen so that they do not get obscured by the room tools.
Room Cards
Private rooms will also have a room card that will show the list of occupants. Remember, only those who are invited into that chat room will be able to see the room card.
GA versus AP
GA (General Audience) users cannot be invited into an AP (Access Pass) room for a private chat.
When you click on My Room, it will still open the room you have set as your default. As a reminder, this is how you can set your default room:
