What is the new Voice feature?

Voice (live audio) is an exclusive, new feature available only to VIP users who are a part of the new Tiered VIP program.

Voice is the ability to voice chat in Live Rooms with friends.

VIP hosts can turn on Voice and also turn on the mic for Presenters in a Live Room to broadcast their voice to all Viewers in the room.

Note: This feature is only available in Live Rooms.

How do I know if a Live Room has the Voice feature on?

If the Voice feature is turned on in a Live Room, you will see the speaker icon next to the room occupancy count on the room card or Live Room tile prior to joining.

What does it mean if my Voice is metered?

While Voice is an available feature to all Tiered VIP members, each VIP tier has different durations of usage.

  • Diamond VIPs have unlimited access to the Voice feature.
  • Platinum VIPs can use the Voice feature for up to six hours in one month.
  • Gold VIPs can use the Voice feature for up to two hours in one month.

The meter begins counting down once you turn the feature on and only stops when you turn it off or leave the room.

How does the Voice meter work?

The meter indicates how many minutes are available to use for Voice. The meter automatically starts counting down from the moment that you turn on the feature. It will continue to count down even if no one is speaking.

To turn off the meter, you must turn off the Voice feature or leave the room.

As a VIP host, how do I turn on Voice?

Ready to be heard? The Voice feature is automatically set to “off” when you start a Live Room, so you will need to turn it on to use it.

On IMVU Desktop

  1. Click on the Media Controls from the upper right corner of your screen.
  2. Your Media controls will open with the Broadcast Voice feature turned off. Toggle it to the right to turn "on" Voice.
  3. You will need to grant IMVU permission to your mic and for Voice chats to be recorded for moderation purposes through the privacy settings. Click Okay to grant permission. Note: If you select “Don’t Allow” and change your mind later, you can change this permission from your privacy settings. You can also try turning the Broadcast Voice setting off and on again.
  4. Once permissions are granted, the Broadcast Voice will toggle on and begin loading. You will see “Connecting…” on your screen. During this time, the microphone icon will appear in the upper left corner of the screen.
  5. Once connected, the microphone icon is turned on and is ready for use. The Presenter Microphones section will also appear in your Media Controls. Note: To mute your microphone, just click on the microphone icon again.

As a VIP host, can I turn on the Voice feature for multiple rooms?

No, you can only broadcast Voice for one room at a time.

The Voice feature will need to be turned on again for the next Live Room experience.

Who can use Voice?

Only a new Tiered VIP member can turn on Voice in a Live Room. Once the feature is turned on, the VIP host can choose to “pass the mic” (turn on the mic) for the Presenters in their room.

Note: Presenters in a Live Room do not need to have the new Tiered VIP membership in order to use Voice.

As a VIP host, if I turn on Voice but leave the room, will the Presenters still be able to utilize the feature?

No, Presenters will not be able to utilize the feature if the VIP host leaves the room. When the VIP host leaves the room, Voice will automatically turn off, and the meter will stop. The Voice feature will need to be turned on again for the next Live Room experience.

As a VIP host, how do I turn Voice on for my Presenters?

On IMVU Desktop

  1. When the Broadcast Voice setting is turned on, the Presenter Microphones section will also appear in your Media Controls. Click on the caret symbol to expand the section and see all the current Presenters of the room and microphone controls.
  2. Microphones for Presenters are automatically muted. You can click each Presenter individually to turn their microphone on or click “Turn On All” to enable it for all Presenters at once.
  3. When you turn the microphone on for a Presenter or choose “Turn On All,” the speaker icon will appear in the upper left corner of your screen.

You can turn off the speaker or turn on the speaker to hear voice chat.

As a Presenter, how do I use the Voice feature if the VIP host turns my mic on?

On IMVU Desktop

  1. When the room Host turns your microphone on, you will receive a notification asking if you would like to use the microphone. Click “Okay” to accept.
  2. Next, you will need to grant IMVU permission to your mic and for Voice chats to be recorded for moderation purposes through the privacy settings. Click “Okay” to grant permission.
  3. Once permissions are granted, you will see “Connecting…” on your screen. During this time, the microphone icon will appear in the upper left corner of the screen and is muted.
  4. Once connected, the microphone icon is turned on and ready to use. You can mute/unmute yourself by clicking on the microphone icon again.

Note: The room host can turn off your microphone at any time. If the Host leaves the room, the Voice feature will automatically turn off.

As a Viewer, how do I listen to a Voice broadcast or mute the audio if the VIP host has the mic turned on?

Once the Host turns on the Voice feature, you will automatically start to hear the audio. As a Viewer, you will be able to mute/unmute the audio in the room by clicking the speaker icon in the upper left corner of your screen.

Note: If the Host leaves the room or loses connection, the Voice feature will automatically turn off.

How to Mute, Block, or Report Abuse for the new Voice feature

The Voice feature was designed with safety in mind. Users have the power to mute, remove, or report other users if they encounter inappropriate behavior. While we expect VIP Hosts room owners to manage the voice conversations in their rooms, the next few questions help explain the safety options available to everyone:

How do I report an inappropriate comment/chat that comes through the Voice feature?

  1. To report an inappropriate Voice comment or chat, click on the room settings menu in the upper right corner.
  2. In the following popup, click Report.
  3. Proceed with selecting “Inappropriate Audio” for the report.
  4. To complete the report, click Report and then Submit.

Note: IMVU will review the report and take the appropriate action as needed.

How do I mute another user?

Only VIP Hosts have the ability to mute/unmute Presenters that they have invited to speak in a Live Room. In order to allow a Presenter to speak, the VIP Host taps on the microphone so that the Presenter can begin speaking.  At any time, the VIP Host can tap the microphone again to mute the Presenter’s voice. It is ultimately the room owner’s responsibility to maintain a conversation that follows IMVU policies.

On IMVU Desktop

As a VIP Host, you can mute/unmute your Presenter’s microphone from the Presenter Microphones section.

  1. Click on the down caret of the Presenter Microphones section under “Media Controls”.
  2. This will expand the section to reveal the current Presenters and the microphone controls. Click on the Presenter’s icon to mute/unmute their microphone.

How do I remove another user from a Live Room?

VIP Hosts can select Moderators to assist them in ensuring a positive and engaging experience in a Live Room.  At any time, a VIP Host or a Moderator can remove another user following these simple steps.

  • Click on the User’s Profile.
  • Click the three dots, and then tap “Remove User”.
  • The user will then be removed from the Live Room.
