Having problems with your IMVU Classic (IMVU Client) ? This series of troubleshooting steps tend to resolve a majority of software-related issues!

Clearing your IMVU Cache

Clearing the cache is one of the most effective ways to make sure the IMVU Classic (IMVU Client)  is working properly. The cache is like a temporary memory where the client stores all the things it loads. When the cache piles up, it takes too much memory making the software laggy. It may also cause the software to be unstable. Hence, it is recommended to clear the cache regularly.

Here are the simple steps to clear the IMVU cache.

STEP 1. Log in to your IMVU Classic (IMVU Client) .

STEP 2. Click on Settings on the upper-right hand corner.

STEP 3. Click on Advanced.

STEP 4. Click on Clear IMVU cache and restart client. This will ask you to log in to the IMVU Classic (IMVU Client) once more.

Updating your Software Version

New versions of IMVU generally come with the latest bug fixes to give you a smoother experience. Simply download and install the latest version from the following link:

http://www.imvu.com/download.php

Click on the “Windows Installer” if you are using a Windows Desktop.

Click on the “Mac DMG” if you are using a Mac Desktop.

Your IMVU Classic (IMVU Client) will also prompt you with the latest updates upon sign-in. Make sure to click on Update Now to get the latest features and fixes!

Reinstalling IMVU (and clearing AppData)

If a simple update does not work, you may try uninstalling IMVU first and reinstalling again.

To uninstall the App:

For Windows: Select Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Select the app you want to remove, and then select Uninstall.

For MAC: Select the app and choose File > Move to Trash from the menu bar or Select the app and press Command-Delete on your keyboard. To delete the app after moving it to the Trash, choose Finder > Empty Trash.

To download and reinstall the latest version from the following link to reinstall: http://www.imvu.com/download.php

Other Troubleshooting Option:

If you're on Windows, you should also clear the stored AppData of the Chat Software (this will not delete anything from your account or avatar). Follow these steps:

STEP 1. Click Start, then Run.

STEP 2. In the empty box that appears, type "%appdata%" without the quotation marks. (In Windows 10, you may type directly on the search box without clicking Run.) The AppData folder should appear in the results. Click on it.

STEP 3. This will show you the IMVU and IMVUClient installation folders. Delete these two folders.

STEP 4. After deleting the folders, restart your PC.

STEP 5. Reinstall IMVU.

For Connection Issues (Windows)

If you suspect that your software isn't able to access the Internet, here are some troubleshooting tips you can try. Note that because of the range of problems that may contribute to this issue, a trial-and-error approach might be required.

STEP 1. Find out if you really have lost internet connectivity by opening a browser window and navigating to a website which you haven't visited lately (or hit the 'refresh' button in your browser) .

STEP 2. Click Start and type "cmd" without the quotation marks on the search box. Right-click on the cmd result that appears, and click Run as administrator. This will launch a Command Prompt window.

STEP 3. In the command prompt, type "ipconfig/release" without the quotation marks.

STEP 4. Afterwards, type "ipconfig/renew" without the quotes.

STEP 5. Once that's done, check that you have connectivity by opening a browser window and opening a site or hitting the refresh button.

STEP 6. Try logging into IMVU again.

Other Connectivity Tips:

  • If you have a laptop and move it from location to location, your computer might not give you a new IP address when you plug in somewhere else.
  • Does your computer have a firewall or a virus protection filter that may be interfering with your connection? Some firewalls and antivirus software block IMVU's connection, resulting in a laggy experience. If this is the case, you may add IMVU to your firewall or antivirus Exceptions List. There are different steps for different types of programs, but the general idea is as follows:

STEP 1. Launch your antivirus program, and enter the Settings for your antivirus or firewall features.

STEP 2. Look for "Exceptions", "Exclusions", or a similar option. Click the Add button.

STEP 3. Some software will allow you to choose whether to exclude a file, folder, or process. Choose Process, and exclude IMVU, which should appear from the running processes list.

  • Have you checked if something else may be causing issues? For example, a home security system can interfere with internet connection, cordless home phones and Wii game systems have also been reported.
