Update IMVU Desktop 

If your IMVU Desktop is buggy or not working, it may need an update. Click here to see the latest version and download it! 

• Click on the “Windows Installer” if you use a Windows Desktop. 
• Click on the “Mac DMG” if you use a Mac Desktop.

Clear Cache and Reinstall IMVU Desktop 

You might also try clearing the cache and uninstalling and reinstalling the software to see if it will fix the problem.

To clear the cache:

We recommend deleting the IMVU Desktop cache. This can be done manually by following these steps:

Windows

Step 1. Click the Start button, and type %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming in Windows Search. You should see a link to the File Folder come up under Best Match.

Step 2. Click the File Folder under Best Match. This should open a File Explorer window.

Step 3. Select and delete the folders: IMVUApp and IMVU Desktop (BETA) if they exist.

Step 4. Click the Start button, and type %userprofile%\AppData\Local in Windows Search. You should see a link to the File Folder come up under Best Match.

Step 5. Click the File Folder under Best Match. This should open a File Explorer window.

Step 6. Select and delete the folders: IMVUApp-BETA and IMVU Desktop if they exist.

Mac

Step 1. Open Finder and click on Go in the menu bar and select Library (NOTE: You may have to press and hold the ‘Option’ key (⌥) to have Library show up)

Step 2. Open the folder Application Support

Step 3. Select and delete the folders: IMVU Desktop and IMVUApp BETA if they exist. 

Step 4. Restart IMVU Desktop. You will need to log in again and reset your preferences.

To uninstall and reinstall the app: 

Windows

Select Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Select the app you want to remove, and then select Uninstall.

Mac

Select the app and choose File > Move to Trash from the menu bar or Select the app and press Command-Delete on your keyboard. To delete the app after moving it to the Trash, choose Finder > Empty Trash.

IMVU Desktop Not Launching Properly (Mac Only)

If you are launching IMVU Desktop on a Mac and the application appears in the dock but does not open a window, please try the following steps: 

Step 1. Make sure you force quit IMVU Desktop if it is still open.

Step 2. Go to Finder > Applications> Utilities

Step 3. Open the Terminal application

Step 4. Type or paste this command within the terminal and press Enter: cd ~/Library/Preferences

Step 5. Type or paste this command within the terminal and press Enter: rm com.imvu.desktop.*

Step 6. Relaunch IMVU Desktop.
