How to Add a Radio Station

Follow these steps to get the music going:

  1. Click on the Media icon.
  2. Toggle Radio Streaming ON.
  3. Enter a valid radio station URL and hit Load.
  4. If the station appears Off Air, click the Play button to start it.
  5. Enjoy the music! Need a change? Just enter a new URL and load it.

Tips for a Seamless Experience

  • Use HTTPS - Non-secure HTTP links won’t work. Try adding ‘https://’ at the beginning to see if a secure version is available.
  • Make sure the URL is a direct stream - It should open and play independently in a browser.
  • If a station isn’t playing, try another one - It could be offline or not a valid streaming link.
  • Lower bitrates work best - High bitrates may cause playback issues.

Where to Find Radio Stations?

You can discover streaming radio stations through online directories such as StreamURL and FMStream. While we provide these sources as examples, IMVU does not endorse any particular website or links. Always use trusted sources when selecting a radio stream. IMVU does not host or produce any radio streams and is not responsible for any content of the radio streams and links. Radio streams will be established directly between users and the radio station's server.

Volume Control Options

  • Web, Desktop, & Android - The radio volume can be adjusted separately from Voice Chat.
  • iOS -  You can only mute/unmute the radio. A separate volume control is not available.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

If your stream is not working, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Ensure the streaming URL is correctly formatted and valid.
  • The radio station may be offline. Try selecting a different radio station.
  • The link provided may not be a direct streaming link. If it cannot play independently in a browser, then it will not work. Try selecting a different radio station.

Who can control the Radio Streaming Feature?

Room Hosts and Moderators can start, stop, and change the station. If a Host or Moderator enables streaming, it will keep playing as long as at least one participant remains in the room. If streaming is disabled, the radio will stop for everyone.

What happens if a Host or Moderator leaves the room?

If a Host or Moderator enables streaming, the selected station will continue playing as long as at least one participant remains in the room. If no Hosts or Moderators are present, the last chosen station will keep playing for all participants. However, if streaming is disabled, the radio will stop for everyone.

Reporting Inappropriate Audio Content

If you come across audio content that violates IMVU’s Terms of Use, you can report the chat room for review.

To report an inappropriate audio, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner.
  2. Click Report
  3. Choose Inappropriate Radio
  4. Click Submit.
