This is an important update for Grandfathered Creators.
In the announcement below we stated that starting July 1, 2023, all Earn Money Creators, including Grandfathered Creators, will be required to have either Platinum or Diamond VIP in order to be in the Earn Money Program and receive cash payouts.
(This requirement does not affect Grandfathered Creators who are subscribed to legacy VIP (from before Tiered VIP launched).
We realize this is a huge change for many Grandfathered Creators and have been closely following feedback regarding this new policy.
Based on your valuable input, we have come up with a solution that should make it easier for affected Creators to transition.
Details are as follows:
LINKED ACCOUNTS FOR GRANDFATHERED CREATORS
Starting July 1, 2023, Creators will be able to link three Grandfathered Creator accounts together, with only one VIP subscription.
Creators will choose one Grandfathered account for their VIP subscription, and two additional Grandfathered accounts that will not need VIP.
If a Creator already pays for Platinum or Diamond VIP on a non-Grandfathered account, they can apply it to two of their Grandfathered accounts.
All three linked accounts will be eligible for the Earn Money Program and payouts.
Once the accounts are linked, new earnings from these accounts will be combined into one MASA balance. Earnings from before the accounts are linked will not be combined.
Grandfathered accounts that are grouped with a VIP account will not need to apply for the Earn Money Program as long as they have already been approved to participate in the Earn Money Program prior.
Starting August 2023, earnings from the linked accounts can be set up to funnel into the VIP account.
INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO LINK GRANDFATHERED ACCOUNTS
Here’s how to link a Platinum or Diamond VIP Grandfathered account with two additional accounts.
Make sure one of your Creator accounts has Platinum or Diamond VIP
Submit a help ticket to the Earn Money Program, requesting linked accounts. List an account that has VIP, and two Grandfathered accounts that do not have VIP.
If any of the linked accounts is not in the Earn Money Program, those account(s) will need to join to earn money and request a payout. All accounts will be able to apply to the Earn Money Program without a VIP subscription. However, you will not be able to earn money or request a payout until the account has a qualified VIP subscription or is linked to a Grandfathered account with a qualified VIP subscription.
Once the team receives your ticket (and your Earn Money application(s) if applicable), they will:
Check to make sure the accounts are owned by you
Confirm your Earn Money Program application has been accepted.
As soon as your accounts are approved, the team will link them together, so all three can be in the Earn Money Program with only one VIP subscription
ADDITIONAL BENEFIT - JULY ONLY
Between July 1 and July 30, Earn Money accounts with less than $50 can convert their balances into Credits. To receive Credits, send a help ticket to the Earn Money team.
Attention Creators - Starting July 1 Earn Money Payouts will require VIP
This is an important notice for Creators who are not signed up for VIP but still receive cash payouts in the Earn Money Program.
Starting July 1, 2023, all Earn Money Creators will be required to have either Platinum or Diamond VIP in order to receive cash payouts.
This does not include legacy Creators who signed up for VIP before the Tiered VIP system launched. They already have the equivalent of Platinum VIP and do not need to take any action.
CLARIFICATION:
Added 5/18/23: By "legacy Creators" we mean Grandfathered Creators. Grandfathered Creators without VIP will still be able to create, submit to their shop and earn Credits.
When this new requirement is introduced, Grandfathered Creators without VIP will still be able to create, submit to their shop and earn Credits.
Added 5/23/23 - You will not be able to earn cash or receive payouts unless you purchase Platinum or Diamond VIP. Once you join VIP you can earn cash and receive payouts. You will not lose existing cash balances. They will simply not be available without VIP.
The Platinum and Diamond VIP memberships offer exclusive benefits that will help Creators make the most of their IMVU experience, including free live chat rooms, live voice broadcasting, and catalog discounts. See our store https://www.imvu.com/next/store/ for more details.
We realize VIP is new to many of you, and to that end, we have provided several weeks of notice so that you can review the Platinum and Diamond VIP offerings and decide which is right for you. See our store https://www.imvu.com/next/store/ for more details.
Thank you!

The ONLY viable solution is the withdrawal of this absolute insult towards ALL veteran creators! The proposal is just a natural outcome of aiming to achieve some balance in what is anyway imbalanced. As you well put it, creators around are as diverse as their earning. One cannot (and SHOULD NOT) impose on them any further. It has been imposed enough over the years in various ways. And the solution itself, only prooves how wrong it strikes and dissrespectful towards all creators things are if as much as THINK about this new direction imvu is taking. So in an uptopical attempt to balance, ethics are being ditched. And that's the end of it! Affected or not affected, this is perhaps the lowest kind of move any company could ever make towards its patrons.

"Freemium business model" and " one that we hope will last forever!" Very nice. It appears "forever" only lasted for about 10 or so years. Again, something else was promised, built upon, created towards in the beggining, and whatever new staff is here today is actively striving to ruin it.

I see your perspective, and I completely agree with your point about IMVU operating as a business (After all there are no free services in this life except the oxygen we breath and a few other things).
Your journey resonates with me, as I too started as a hobbyist, cherishing the joy and fulfillment that came with turning my passion into earnings.
But, I think we need to realize that this decision, while benefiting IMVU financially, could potentially lead to some creators, particularly those with lower earnings, stepping away. This could result in a loss of diversity and vibrancy that has always been a strength of IMVU community.
In truth, this move is not detrimental to me personally although I totally and highly disagree with the Ethics behind that move, but having been with IMVU since 2009, I've witnessed firsthand the effort, struggle, time, and financial investment creators put into this platform. It would be disheartening to see some of these dedicated individuals, particularly those who have been around for so long, leave due to financial constraints ( I already know a few who won't be able to go on after this ).
Certainly, it's important to respect all creators, regardless of income level. But, I firmly believe that IMVU could express gratitude to its long-standing and devoted creators by reconsidering this plan. I hope, just as you do, that a solution that works for everyone, can be found.
I am afraid that although I see your point, IMVU is a business and I don't think they can give free rides unless it is financially beneficial to the platform. Creating that is unsustainable I call a hobby because I was once in that situation and IMVU was a hobby to me, a creative outlet, until it became a job. I talk from experience that I had to invest a lot but in turn I attained knowledge that will far outlive my stay on IMVU.
But what you are suggesting is not respectful to creators that also financially sustain the platform with a large part of their income. Why should a person that cannot pay a small fee be allowed to create for free when a lot of "high income" creators must pay in order to access money they have earned years ago?
Don't get me wrong, this whole situation sucks for everyone. But that is not a viable solution because it simply doesn't make sense to punish one part of the community that already pays so much in fees and taxes and whos sales sustain the platform. Who is to say that a high earning creator is not struggling? Can you measure a persons expenses too by what they earn? It is impossible to do so.
So a solution should be viable for everyone regardless of income, if legacy creators who can't afford to be here don't have to pay then no legacy creator should.

@shopdaisylogo Yes i know. then you must know/remember "CaryJay" too ... " Most of our revenue came from a marketplace of crowdsourced content, where individuals sold 3D items to consumers who bought virtual currency from IMVU." is what he said in an interview. And there you have it... loud and clear. And indeed i know why Varsha left suddenly... i heard it from multiple people on and outside IMVU. She couldnt stand the changes and the direction imvu was going in... as i heard she had multiple discusions with Brett back then about the whole mobile thing...the move too.and she even was trying to stop him going on with it..( both next and mobile.) but as staff on the forum she had to defend it over and over to the users. while she didnt like or even hated it herself. I could see it more and more in here posts ... and when she heard of imvu will be sold to.. and what it will become. she jumped off the boat . ( i think that was end 2016 )
I remember one of the staff's coming in my imvu ex wife's room(s) and her friends. They where doing all kinds of fashion shows.. trigger dj competitions ( friendly) and themed partys for everyone , all the time. He liked what they were doing and he supported it 100% . He even gave her 20K credits a couple of times to keep the events going. and to buy and decorate rooms with it. Most of the times he came in the rooms to see.

I appreciate your input, but it's critical to understand that not every creator shares the same financial capability. Labeling creators as "hobby" might be dismissive and could be perceived as derogatory to those who simply don't earn as much. The reality is, what might be a negligible $10 for a high-earning creator can be a substantial burden for those earning less. I was not aiming to segregate creators but instead to advocate for a system that acknowledges the disparity in income levels and treats all creators fairly.
And yes absolutely, I agree that paying for professional services is the norm in this life. But, we need to remember that for some creators who have already invested heavily to establish their presence in this community, this added cost could be the tipping point that ends their creative journey. This isn't just about an individual's financial struggle; it's about preserving the diversity and richness of the IMVU community. At the end of the day, everyone, regardless of their stature, should be thinking of ways to sustain their participation, not place further barriers on their path.

The logic in this is a bit flawed, at least in the first part of your post.
Why should the "high income" creator "pay to be paid" when the hobby creator doesn't pay anything? Why would the person that enjoys IMVU as a hobby not have to pay anything for the privilege of creating? Doesn't the creator that earns a living from IMVU have vastly more expenses derived from their professional activities here? Shouldn't those creators that in themselves generate more income for IMVU itself have more of a "right" to not pay?
End of the line is we cannot again segregate grandfathered creators into groups of who deserves more to not pay to be paid, no one has a right to do that and everyone personal and professional circumstances are different. Either we all pay or we don't.
Saying that, I would rather pay for something that is of professional use to me.

Your concerns echo my own. This sudden shift leaves me pondering the legal implications and wondering if our "contracts" as creators offer any shield against such decisions. IMVU's staff owes us a clear and transparent explanation for this change, along with a solid understanding of our contractual protections.

@RigsK It clearly seems the current solution largely benefits the well-established, high-earning creators and puts smaller creators at a disadvantage.
Many small-scale creators form the heart of IMVU's diversity and creativity. They may not have the same earning capacity, but their contributions are no less important. It's crucial to ensure they too have a fair and feasible platform to continue their creative pursuits.
Therefore, might I propose a tiered approach to VIP subscriptions? For instance, creators earning over $500 a month could be required to maintain a VIP subscription, while those earning less could continue to create without this obligation. This could ensure a more balanced and inclusive environment for all creators, regardless of their income level.
It's crucial to remember that IMVU's strength lies in its vibrant and diverse creator community. As a company that wants to have at least a glimpse of ethics in this, you should ensure that you uphold that strength by ensuring your policies are equitable and supportive for all creators, not just the financially successful ones.
Finally, it's important to note that IMVU's financial stability is not solely reliant on VIP subscriptions; the platform will continue to earn significantly from the sales in creators' shops. This inescapable fact underscores the necessity of showing due respect to the Grandfather Creators. They laid the foundation of the marketplace we enjoy today and should not be overlooked or disregarded. IMVU's ethical obligation extends beyond mere profits; it lies in honoring and sustaining the community that helped build its success.
