Introduction to the Alpha Mac OS version of the IMVU client

IMVU thanks you for your help in testing the latest Alpha version of the IMVU client for Mac OS. Testing and development of this Alpha version is ongoing and we want your feedback related to performance and stability. You will notice that the Mac version is currently different from the Windows version and some features are not yet available. In upcoming versions, we will address issues reported by our Alpha customers as well as expand the service. We are committed to providing the IMVU client to the entire Mac user community so they, too, can enjoy the complete IMVU experience.

Why is this only an Alpha version?

IMVU’s Mac Client is in the early stages of product development and all features are not yet available (see below). We are testing with users like you and collecting feedback as part of the process. We want to identify and resolve major issues and ensure that the feature availability is comparable to our Windows version. Once that goal is achieved, a more official version of IMVU for Mac will be made available to our users. Again, we need your feedback to facilitate the process.

Who can get the Mac client?

Any Mac User! If you are already an IMVU user, on your Mac, go to http://www.imvu.com/signup/download, read and agree to the testing agreement, and download the Mac client. If you are a new user accessing our website from a Mac, you will be automatically directed to this download page.

How do I provide feedback?

Please use the “Send Feedback” link provided within the IMVU client to provide your comments and feedback.

What's the difference between the Windows and Mac clients?

The main difference is that some IMVU features (see below) are not yet available in the Mac client. We also expect some stability issues with the initial Mac versions. We will continue to develop the Mac client to provide our users the same rich virtual environment.

My favorite feature is missing on the Mac client, what gives?

Here is a list of features currently not available in this version of the Mac. The list will get shorter with each new version:

  • Music: Music mixes are available, but not for streaming products with music (such as YouTube players in rooms)
  • Walk-Off: This feature is unavailabe in the Mac client as well
  • Auto-updater: Unlike our windows Client, you will not see prompts at login to upgrade to the latest version but will need to download it manually from here when available: http://www.imvu.com/signup/download.

What about Flash?

User-generated Flash content (typically connected to seat nodes) will not be available in our Mac client in any of its versions. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for users of such products as well as our creators who develop them. Thanks for your patience! We may address this issue with an alternative solution in the long term.
