⚠️ UK FCA Crypto Asset Financial Promotions Rules
On June 8, 2023, in line with UK Government legislation, the FCA rolled out final rules (PS23/6) that mandate crypto firms to assess consumers' risk awareness in crypto investing.
Starting January 8, 2024, both new and existing UK customers must pass two questionnaires to confirm their understanding.
A mandatory 24-hour 'cooling off' period for new UK customers will also be introduced, during which time they’ll be unable to purchase or trade crypto assets.
In line with these new requirements, those unable to complete the questionnaires or demonstrate a grasp of the risks will become ineligible to hold an Uphold account.

What is Uphold?
Uphold is a licensed and secure digital money platform that allows you to buy digital assets (such as cryptocurrency) after a stringent verification process. It is IMVU's partner that allows you to convert these cryptocurrencies, like VCOIN, to cash or other currencies.
Uphold can also link to your bank account and directly deposit funds once you have converted your digital assets into a local currency.
Why do I need an Uphold Account?
Uphold is only required should you plan on withdrawing your VCOIN outside of IMVU.
You will need an Uphold Account if you want to convert your VCOIN into cash. Uphold is the exchange in which these transactions take place, and is our partner to link your IMVU account with for a smooth transfer.
Note that IMVU may also request its own internal security checks on large purchases of VCOIN or on suspicious usage.
How can I verify my Uphold Account?
To verify your Uphold Account, you will need an SSN (or other government issued identification number), have a government issued ID, and be 18 years or older.
To verify your Uphold Account, first create an account through Uphold and link your Uphold Account with your IMVU account by clicking Withdraw on your VCOIN Wallet. This will prompt you to link your IMVU account with your Uphold Account.
Steps to Verify your Uphold Account:
Step 1: Tap the “Verify My identity” button in the Transact pane, or on the blue banner that can be found after clicking the three dots > Settings > Profile.
Step 2: Initiate the verification according to the device you're using: Mobile OR Web
Mobile
- Click Continue
Web
- Scan the QR Code to proceed with your smartphone or continue with webcam
Step 3: Take a photo of the front and back of your ID. All details must be readable. If your ID reads clearly in the preview window, click Readable, if not, click Retake.
Step 4: Take a live selfie. Make sure you take the photo in a well-lit room where the light source is in front of you to prevent any shadows.
Step 5: Tap Done. You should get a message soon confirming you've been verified. You can check your status after clicking the three dots > Settings > Profile.
Tips for Successful Submission:
- Take a clear picture of your valid photo ID, where every detail is readable and clear. Ensure the details on your ID match those on your Uphold account (legal name, no nicknames).
- Remove any masks, hats or sunglasses. (You can wear prescription glasses).
- Make sure your photo ID is valid for at least three more months.
- Photograph the entire doc, avoid any cutting off corners or text.
- If you’re having trouble with the camera on a desktop or laptop computer, try doing it through the Mobile App instead.
- If you make a mistake, refresh the page to restart the process. Do not attempt to complete the process if you know there’s a mistake as this will result in a temporary restriction until it can be reviewed manually.
- We don’t accept scanned or otherwise saved image files. This will fail and cause you delay.
- Please don't take a photo of a photo. This will fail and cause you delay. Your selfie needs to be "live".
- Make sure the light source is in front of you, not behind you, so your face is well lit.
- Face the camera and include your head and shoulders, like a passport or photo ID.
- Use a plain background.

Withdrawing VCOIN
The withdrawal process for VCOIN requires both your account and your VCOIN becoming eligible for withdrawal.
For your IMVU account to become eligible for withdrawal, it will need to have:
1. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
2. To be linked with your Uphold Account
For your VCOIN to be eligible for withdrawal, it will need to be in your VCOIN wallet for 30 days.
Once both your account and your VCOIN meet these requirements, it will be ready for withdrawal.
The minimum amount to withdraw is 1250 VCOIN. Upon requesting a withdrawal, there is a 3-5 day processing period, in which our team reviews your request. Once your request has been approved, you will receive a notification that informs you your VCOIN is now in your Uphold Account. From there, you will be able to exchange with other currencies, trade with other crypto holders, or even convert your VCOIN to cash.
Please note that there is a 10% transaction fee per "exit" on Uphold. To learn more about Uphold's exit fee, please visit Uphold's Support.

Yes, VCOIN is broadly available in the US and in more than 150 countries. And, while at launch, users in a few select states and countries will be unable to buy VCOIN or transfer it out of IMVU, our team is working to quickly expand its availability. However, all users can still send and receive VCOIN from other users while on the IMVU platform.
VCOIN can be purchased, withdrawn, and gifted on IMVU Desktop and IMVU Website, and IMVU Mobile. You can also gift and withdraw VCOIN, as well as access your transaction history through IMVU Mobile (Android and iOS). To purchase VCOIN, click here to learn how.

Why is VCOIN not available in my country/state? When will it be available?
Although VCOIN is available in many locations, we understand that there are restrictions on where VCOIN can be purchased or withdrawn in various countries and US states. While our team is actively working on expanding our list quickly, VCOIN availability is dependent not just on us but on cryptocurrency regulation within these restricted locations. Rest assured, despite this, we will continue to push availability and update the community as soon as there is a change. Thanks for being patient!
