We want to share an update regarding music services used in IMVU Classic rooms.
IMVU currently partners with Vervelife, a third party music licensing and distribution provider that supplies the music catalog used in IMVU Classic. Vervelife manages licensing with music rights holders and handles the vendor payments and legal compliance required to make this music available on the platform.
Vervelife has made the decision to discontinue support for the music services they provide. Because this service, including its licensing, infrastructure, and continued operation, is entirely owned and managed by Vervelife, this change is outside of IMVU’s control, and we do not have the ability to maintain or extend it.
We know music plays an important role in many IMVU rooms and experiences, and we understand this news may be disappointing. Our team is actively exploring alternative music solutions that could be compatible with IMVU Classic’s legacy technology.
In the meantime: • Music purchases through the Vervelife system have already been disabled. • Radio streaming remains supported on other platforms, including IMVU Web, Desktop, and Mobile. • Existing Flash radio streaming products are not expected to be affected.
We understand many of you have invested in music for your rooms, and we’re taking steps to support impacted users during this transition. We will be accommodating refunds for recent music streaming purchases where applicable. Eligible users will be contacted directly in the coming weeks with more information.
We will continue to share updates as we learn more about the timeline for this transition and evaluate possible solutions.
Thank you for your understanding and for continuing to make IMVU a place full of creativity, expression, and great music.

ok so ive seen the message about the refund, what about all the music i brought prior to october 2025 am i getting a refund on that?, the message from imvu said to screenshot music lists etc , but i cannot since they have all been removed already before i had a chance to document it, as for the streaming on classic, i tried the upgrade to do that and have constantly crashed, i did a clean install and it did the same, this upgrade is buggy, also 1 stream for music is not enough, what about rooms that carry various genres or decades, theres no variety and it limits choice to that of the room owner,

So we are only getting a refund for purchases made after Oct 2025??? That is.....wow. After all the money we've spent over the years to purchase music and credits and that's all we get? I understand this is not IMVU's fault in regards to Vervelife dropping them and stopping all streaming services, but we deserve better then that :(
I BEEN ON IMVU SINCE 08 I HAVE SO MUCH MUSIC I JUST HOPE THEY TAKE AWAY THIS THEY REFUND US ALL... JS!

@Jenna..Here is the page where you find the latest 4 IMVU updateslisted and their links at all times....save the page..I usually dont get sent IMVU Updates to my account on IMVU so I always check this page for the latest update. Its simple to just update from there...
@RickEros - I'm currently running 552.0, have had no other updates to move farther up than that, and am not seeing anything in my live rooms or private rooms. Unless the version you're speaking of is a stand alone client? I'd rather not download a different client just for a radio if that is what is happening here.

@Jenna - You need to put in classic at least 552.4. That's where they have it. It's not a feature for just live rooms, as I've used it in regular rooms. It's just nice now that I don't have to give some separate URL to Classic users to open in a web browser.
@Misandry - I can understand your pain, as I think I mentioned in one of my replies how it's similar to what happens on Amazon prime where you buy a movie and then they lose the rights to that movie. So technically you still have the right to have that movie or song within their platform, but it depends on if they ever get the licensing back.
I don't know if I want to blame this on imvu as much as on the music industry and their incessant ridiculousness in licensing and watching every single piece of content to make sure that you are constantly paying to use anything.
We could ask imvu or demand that they push to get licensing again for all this music, but I still feel like we're going to run into the same problem, or suddenly the price of things are going to go up. All of these record labels and media companies are being so stingy now, which is why we suddenly see streaming platforms opening up left and right for each one of these studios. Rather than let's say some all-in-one spot where you pay one fee and you have everything.
I guess I'm just being more passive with this because I've seen this crap with the music industry. Everybody can sit there and demand IMVU compensate them for the money spent, and it looks like they are going to do it for people who spent anything recently before they cut things off, but technically they could respond that you still have the "ownership" within imvu to those pieces of music, but it all depends on whether or not they can get licensing from the labels again. I'm just getting the vibe that it's too much trouble for them at this point.
As someone that deals with having pieces of content on social media blocked because I used 30 seconds of a piece of music or having to go through the ups and downs of everybody keeping a stranglehold on there proprietary items, I can't blame IMVU if they just decided it's better to go some other route.

I feel like implementing radio streaming is like giving Classic users a band-aid to treat a gunshot wound because how is that going to account for all the money we're spent on our own IMVU music and curating our own mixes to enjoy while in chat? This isn't fair and it's actually going to run people further and further away from IMVU because y'all are doing the complete opposite of what people want. This music licensing issue should've been resolved long before this announcement came about because there have been consistent with the functionality of the music store since roughly February of last year.

Still waiting to hear back from them regarding my ticket....would like to know if we're getting compensated properly for all our music or not. And now they are finally releasing radio streaming for Classic?? I tried checking that out, but I don't see an option in the rooms to use a radio like that....so is it not live?

I'm honestly not shocked by this.
This reminds me of when people would buy a movie from Amazon, and they can only watch it through Amazon, and if Amazon loses licensing of the movie, then you lose it...despite you paying for it.
Amazon will say if they ever get the movie back, you'll have access to it again. Now you're at the mercy of if they ever get that licensing again.
Seems to be the same here. So you have now paid for the access, but unless VU gets licensing, you can't play it. You can't even own anything anymore...just pay a fee or subscription to access something.
I don't think there's going to be a happy ending on this. Personally, I don't think we'll see IMVU Music come back. Maybe if they can get IMVU Radio working on Classic, it'll be a small consolation, but not ideal.
Personally, IMVU needs to focus on finishing Desktop and taking it out of Beta, and optimizing it so it runs more solidly. Right now I'm having issues even trying to go into rooms on Desktop. I had to DJ at IMVUchella and the ONLY way I could get in was on the web version, or mobile.
I'm still waiting for narration to come to the new platforms...the /me thing.
Figure out what you want with music, but finish the software already. It's been in beta for years. There's constant bugs. Losing music sucks, but it's even worse with a poor experience on top of it.
