Important Update About Music in IMVU Classic

We want to share an update regarding music services used in IMVU Classic rooms.

IMVU currently partners with Vervelife, a third party music licensing and distribution provider that supplies the music catalog used in IMVU Classic. Vervelife manages licensing with music rights holders and handles the vendor payments and legal compliance required to make this music available on the platform.

Vervelife has made the decision to discontinue support for the music services they provide. Because this service, including its licensing, infrastructure, and continued operation, is entirely owned and managed by Vervelife, this change is outside of IMVU’s control, and we do not have the ability to maintain or extend it.

We know music plays an important role in many IMVU rooms and experiences, and we understand this news may be disappointing. Our team is actively exploring alternative music solutions that could be compatible with IMVU Classic’s legacy technology.

In the meantime:
• Music purchases through the Vervelife system have already been disabled.
• Radio streaming remains supported on other platforms, including IMVU Web, Desktop, and Mobile.
 • Existing Flash radio streaming products are not expected to be affected.

We understand many of you have invested in music for your rooms, and we’re taking steps to support impacted users during this transition. We will be accommodating refunds for recent music streaming purchases where applicable. Eligible users will be contacted directly in the coming weeks with more information.

We will continue to share updates as we learn more about the timeline for this transition and evaluate possible solutions.

Thank you for your understanding and for continuing to make IMVU a place full of creativity, expression, and great music.

I am mind blown. A refund of less than 5k credits and I have been a part of IMVU for 15 years and have bought countless music tracks. What's next?... going to take IMVU Classic from us too? It was stated that an October 1. 2025 date was put into place to ensure a consistent and fair approach? How is this fair to those of us who have been here since the beginning? Those of us who had purchased hundreds or thousands of music tracks? I truly think something needs to be done about this, something that actually is fair because this most definitely is not!

Why would y'all get rid of the music that we all spent our hard-earned money on? I have 63 pages of music that's just completely wiped away because y'all refused to be open about the loss of your music partner until the very LAST minute and didn't even attempt to maintain the music licensing.

So let me get this straight…

For years we were “buying” music, building playlists, spending real money — and now everything just disappears because a third-party service is shutting down?

Yes, I understand this was technically a license. But let’s be honest — this was never clearly communicated in a way users could actually understand. It was presented like purchases, not temporary access that could vanish at any time.

Many of us have spent years and a lot of money building playlists, only to now lose everything, with refunds limited to recent purchases. That’s frustrating enough on its own.

But let’s not forget — this system already had issues for years:

  • songs becoming unavailable due to region restrictions
  • and even basic limitations, like playlists not playing unless another user was present in the room

That last one especially makes no sense — sometimes we just want to be in our own room and listen to our own playlists.

And now the solution is… radio?

People don’t want random radio. We want access to the music we already paid for.

If a new system is being developed, then it should:

  • allow us to keep and use the tracks we already purchased
  • support playlists properly
  • and work even for a single user in a room

If the issue is the third-party provider, then IMVU should consider building an internal system that doesn’t depend on external services — so users don’t lose everything again in the future.

Right now, it feels like years of investment are just being erased.

We understand the concerns being raised around both the refund window and the timing of the music store shutdown.

Refunds are currently limited to music purchases made on or after October 1, 2025. This cutoff was put in place to ensure a consistent and fair approach across all accounts as part of retiring the service. We recognize this may not cover all past purchases and may not fully reflect your overall experience with the feature. While we’re not able to extend refunds beyond this period, your feedback is important and has been noted.

Regarding saving playlists, the music store was shut down earlier than expected, which may have prevented some users from saving or capturing their playlists as previously recommended. The timing of the shutdown was outside of our control, and we recognize that this made that guidance less useful than intended. We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this caused.

We are currently working with Vervelife to better understand what data may still be accessible. If any options become available for retrieving playlist information, Customer Support will assist where possible.

ok so ive seen the message about the refund, what about all the music i brought prior to october 2025 am i getting a refund on that?, the message from imvu said to screenshot music lists etc , but i cannot since they have all been removed already before i had a chance to document it, as for the streaming on classic, i tried the upgrade to do that and have constantly crashed, i did a clean install and it did the same, this upgrade is buggy, also 1 stream for music is not enough, what about rooms that carry various genres or decades, theres no variety and it limits choice to that of the room owner,

So we are only getting a refund for purchases made after Oct 2025???   That is.....wow.  After all the money we've spent over the years to purchase music and credits and that's all we get?  I understand this is not IMVU's fault in regards to Vervelife dropping them and stopping all streaming services, but we deserve better then that  :(

@RickEros - I'm currently running 552.0, have had no other updates to move farther up than that, and am not seeing anything in my live rooms or private rooms.  Unless the version you're speaking of is a stand alone client?  I'd rather not download a different client just for a radio if that is what is happening here.

@Jenna - You need to put in classic at least 552.4.  That's where they have it. It's not a feature for just live rooms, as I've used it in regular rooms. It's just nice now that I don't have to give some separate URL to Classic users to open in a web browser.

@Misandry - I can understand your pain, as I think I mentioned in one of my replies how it's similar to what happens on Amazon prime where you buy a movie and then they lose the rights to that movie. So technically you still have the right to have that movie or song within their platform, but it depends on if they ever get the licensing back.

I don't know if I want to blame this on imvu as much as on the music industry and their incessant ridiculousness in licensing and watching every single piece of content to make sure that you are constantly paying to use anything.

We could ask imvu or demand that they push to get licensing again for all this music, but I still feel like we're going to run into the same problem, or suddenly the price of things are going to go up. All of these record labels and media companies are being so stingy now, which is why we suddenly see streaming platforms opening up left and right for each one of these studios. Rather than let's say some all-in-one spot where you pay one fee and you have everything.

I guess I'm just being more passive with this because I've seen this crap with the music industry. Everybody can sit there and demand IMVU compensate them for the money spent, and it looks like they are going to do it for people who spent anything recently before they cut things off, but technically they could respond that you still have the "ownership" within imvu to those pieces of music, but it all depends on whether or not they can get licensing from the labels again. I'm just getting the vibe that it's too much trouble for them at this point.

As someone that deals with having pieces of content on social media blocked because I used 30 seconds of a piece of music or having to go through the ups and downs of everybody keeping a stranglehold on there proprietary items, I can't blame IMVU if they just decided it's better to go some other route.
