Important Update About Music in IMVU Classic

We want to share an update regarding music services used in IMVU Classic rooms.


IMVU currently partners with Vervelife, a third party music licensing and distribution provider that supplies the music catalog used in IMVU Classic. Vervelife manages licensing with music rights holders and handles the vendor payments and legal compliance required to make this music available on the platform.


Vervelife has made the decision to discontinue support for the music services they provide. Because this service, including its licensing, infrastructure, and continued operation, is entirely owned and managed by Vervelife, this change is outside of IMVU’s control, and we do not have the ability to maintain or extend it.


We know music plays an important role in many IMVU rooms and experiences, and we understand this news may be disappointing. Our team is actively exploring alternative music solutions that could be compatible with IMVU Classic’s legacy technology.


In the meantime:
• Music purchases through the Vervelife system have already been disabled.
• Radio streaming remains supported on other platforms, including IMVU Web, Desktop, and Mobile.
 • Existing Flash radio streaming products are not expected to be affected.


We understand many of you have invested in music for your rooms, and we’re taking steps to support impacted users during this transition. We will be accommodating refunds for recent music streaming purchases where applicable. Eligible users will be contacted directly in the coming weeks with more information.


We will continue to share updates as we learn more about the timeline for this transition and evaluate possible solutions.


Thank you for your understanding and for continuing to make IMVU a place full of creativity, expression, and great music.

I have been purchasing music through your Music Store since 2009. Not what ever third party site you were going through. My credits were spent in YOUR store. All of them! It is now your (IMVU) responsibility to reimburse us for all credits used in this way. Not some random date set by those of you trying to save the company a few bucks. I mean seriously just how much ACTUAL money will IMVU lose in reimbursing us all credits spent? None. Your credits are all virtual, and can only be used in your catalog, buying your items created by those who make IMVU what it is now. Your users! Who you are screwing over by doing this "changing of the guard", or what ever it is you want to call it. You already have a reputation for taking our money and screwing us over when you can. Hence "IMFU". Don't prove it by doing this.

So this is my concern (The following attachment). We are told Classic isn't being shut down, however this pops up and pretty much speaks for itself. My husband and I have but so much time and MONEY into this, from creating, to music, to the rooms, etc. This isn't right. I think anyone who bought any MUSIC needs to be fully refunded...The music isn't cheap...

Dear IMVU Support Team,

I’m writing as a follow-up regarding the recent announcement about the discontinuation of music services in IMVU Classic due to the termination of your partnership with Vervelife.

While I understand that this decision may be outside of IMVU’s direct control, the outcome significantly affects users who invested substantial credits into music products that are now unusable. This is not the first disruption of this kind, and the recurrence raises concerns about the long-term reliability of purchased digital content on the platform.

At this point, I would like to request clear and direct answers regarding the following:

  1. Compensation Scope: Will refunds or credit reimbursements apply to all previously purchased music products that are no longer functional, rather than only recent purchases?

  2. Ownership and Value Protection: What measures will IMVU implement to ensure that user investments in digital goods are protected from similar losses in the future?

  3. Alternative Solutions: Will IMVU provide a replacement system that allows users to restore or transfer their music experience in a meaningful way?

Given that users made purchases in good faith with the expectation of continued access, limiting compensation to recent transactions does not fully address the loss experienced by long-term customers.

I respectfully ask for a transparent and comprehensive response, as well as a fair resolution that reflects the scale of user investment and the importance of this feature within the community.

i have been here  since 2005 between all my accounts  some alias  and   have  spent much on music as others  we should be compensiated for at least  half they  can  see out accounts how do u think  they send our   credits and  manage our conversations ...this blows

i think this was so  wrong,i do understand it was the  3rd party decision but i think  we should have had more notification instead finding out thru update ...i think people who have  spent much money on the  music provided by imvu of there  3rd party  we need to  be   compensated  for at least half of the  money spent  they say they are in search of another  3rd party  so they  can   continue the classic legendary...it  was just   so wrong  how it was presented to all of us in the purchases of the 3rd party company of music for the IMCU status

i never got the link for the refund the music ... i had surely about 6000 or more songs and that since 2015 lol funny how they remove all one by one i have lost one time tons of music one time and now its gone oh well

@Jenna..My thoughts exactly..Why in the world am I staying on here for anymore???? All they do is treat us like garbage, keep taking things away and this could be the final straw....Ive been loyal for 12 years and had thousands of songs and over 650 mixes...all gone..and they think giving me IMVU credits for a few songs I bought since October is "consistent and fair"?????? They are out of their minds..Fair for who??? Fair for them...Its an insult and another spitting in our faces once again...They just have some gall and nerve doing this to us...They cater now to the newbies who dont even stay members long enough to last more than a few weeks and have done everything possible to alieanate and drive off their best customers..just like they drove off all the good creators and product designers years ago who built this site into what it was...it used to be a wonderful website until they started forcing them out with their greed by taking their profits and now they have done it to us yet again by taking away our music and basically stealing our money..we now have nothing to show for all those years..the ones like us who have stayed and spent a ton of money on here through the years  and really care about this site just keep getting screwed over time and time again..How much are we supposed to take? If it was not for all the wonderful friends I have made over the years on this website..I would have been long gone years ago..I saw this night mare and decline coming...I just never thought they would have the nerve to literally steal from us like this.If I do end up leaving I will be going right to court and filing a lwasuit ..Attorneys I have spoken to say theres definitely a case here for theft of goods...IMVU better either get a music provider real fast and get our music back or even get Verve Life back and our music back....if it doesnt happen then we have 2 choices...lawsuit or just leave for good...This could have been the final straw for this website....Its just a shame what they have done..Its disgusting..

Honestly...how exactly is this fair?  It may be fair for those that are still new to IMVU and haven't really purchased much so they don't understand what they are losing....but for those of us that have been with IMVU 10+ years, myself 19 yrs, this is not fair at all that we've spent so much on this site and all we're getting back is enough credits that may last us a few nights in the shop lol.  IMVU is just a game for most newer members, but for those that have been here for ages, through thick and thin, IMVU is a lifestyle.  This saddens me and I wonder sometimes why I stay  :(

How cute, what a joke! You say screen shot our mixes that YOU already took away and only want to refund back to October of 2025? Avatar since: 02/29/08 18 years worth of real money spent on imvu. Unreal, once again imfu screws the community. Then the new ownership admits they're catering to kids.

All that I see here so far runs true. I would hope that all this was an unintentional consequence, and that true compensation would at least be considered. The fact is, my friends, we have all spent US dollars converted to credits on something used for pleasure. Compensation in credits should therefore be in credits, equal to the account holder's loss. A mere 5000 credits to compensate for a loss of any size is a slap in the face to the imvu community. It appears my friend's credits are funny money (worthless); it costs imvu virtually nothing to produce them.  With that in mind, compensating you 5k is didly. It's only fair to be compensated at full value.

I’ve been on IMVU since 2010, and the handling of this music license loss has been extremely disappointing. IMVU posted about this 28 days ago in the forums, but the actual message to users only went out today. Most people don’t read the forums, so the majority of users had no warning. Today’s message told us to:

“save or take screenshots of any playlists or groups you’ve created…”

But when I went to do that, my entire music inventory was already gone. The content was removed before users were notified, making the instructions impossible to follow.

For context, I had:

  • 25 pages of music

  • 50 songs per page

  • 689 credits per song

That’s 1,250 songs, totaling:

1,250 × 689 = 861,250 credits.

Yet the refund being offered is under 5,000 credits, because it only covers purchases after October 2025. That doesn’t come close to the value of what was removed.

IMVU’s own Music Store Terms state that users receive a license to use purchased Digital Content, and users are encouraged to download or back up their content. That requires continued access long enough to do so. Removing purchased content before notifying users contradicts the basic expectation those terms create. The terms also say IMVU may remove items from the Music Store, but they do not say purchased content can be deleted from user inventories without notice. The original post also said IMVU is “exploring alternative music solutions,” but that statement is vague and doesn’t confirm that a replacement provider exists or will ever be implemented.

What Fair Action Should Look Like

While IMVU searches for a new music provider, reasonable steps should be taken to support users who lost their inventories:

1. Restore access to music inventories (even if playback is disabled). Users should be able to view their purchased songs and playlists so they can document what they bought. Content should not be removed before notification.

2. Refund all removed music, not just purchases after October 2025. If paid items are taken away, refunds should reflect the full value of the user’s library, not a small recent‑purchase window.

3. Provide clear, transparent updates about replacement options. “Exploring alternative solutions” is vague. Users deserve concrete information about whether a new provider is being negotiated and what the timeline looks like.

4. Offer temporary compensation while the feature is unavailable. Credits, VIP time, or other platform benefits would help offset the loss of a major paid feature.

Removing paid content, notifying users after the fact, and offering minimal refunds is not acceptable. Long‑time members deserve transparent communication and fair compensation.
