At IMVU, we use recommendation tools to help you discover new content, creators, friends, and offers that may be interesting or relevant to you. This page explains how these tools work, the main factors we use to generate recommendations, and the choices you have to influence them.
IMVU Feed and Discover Feed
How it works:
When you view your IMVU Feed, the content which you see is organized by IMVU and contains only content which has been uploaded by your friends that you choose to follow. The order and types of posts which you see are organized based on recency. The Discover Feed contains content that is selected by IMVU volunteers which manually curate the content thereof. No hashtag-based algorithm is used for the Discover Feed.
How you can influence the recommendations:
You can follow and search for specific hashtags to see more content related to those topics. You can also post your own content with hashtags to join conversations and increase visibility.
Room Recommendations
How it works:
IMVU will recommend rooms for you personally based on a mixture of your past interactions with rooms and whether a friend is in a particular room. IMVU will also base its recommendations on other room information such as current occupancy, whether the host or a moderator is present, whether music is playing in the room, and other miscellaneous non-personalized factors.
Creator Promotion Program (Promoted Content)
How it works:
IMVU Creators can promote their own products on an individual product basis within the IMVU Store. Promoted products are suggested to users temporarily on a non-personalized basis by placing them higher up in the product list, and Creator-promoted content will always be clearly identified as such.
How you can identify it:
Promoted content is always clearly labeled as “Promoted”.
Search Algorithms
People Search
When you use the People Search function, IMVU may provide results based, in addition to filters set by you, on whether (i) you and other users have shared hashtags, (ii) the last time users were logged, and (iii) your location as provided in your settings.
IMVU Shop Search
When you search in the IMVU Shop, results are organized based primarily on items’ relevancy to your search and the number of times a particular item has been sold.
Room Search
Room Search results are based purely on non-personalized information such as relevance, the number of people in a room, and whether a host or moderator is present in the room.
Notifications from IMVU
How it works:
IMVU may send you miscellaneous in-app notifications or messages about upcoming events, activities, product launches, special offers, and promotions for credits, subscriptions, packages, and other digital goods. Information about your device, your account information provided by you at login and thereafter, and your account activity (e.g., prior purchases, subscriptions, engagement with events) may all be taken into account.
How you can influence the recommendations:
You can manage your notification settings in the app to limit or turn off certain types of promotional messages.
